i have a T5 setup n was wondering if its suitable for flowering or if i would have to change to a red spctrum cfl or maybe i could just add a red spectrum in to my grow room

Will it work? Yes
Will you get the biggest, densest flowers? No.
Should you add some red spectrum? Yes

How many T5's do you have? If you have a typical 4 bulb 4 foot fixture, that's only putting out slightly over 200w (i forget how many lumens) it will only get you some smaller sized flowers, without too much density. But then again, it also really depends on your strain as some strains are naturally more airy, which would cause the flowers grown under the T5's to be extra airy.

So to get the most buds out of your setup:

Add more lighting
Add more red spectrum
Keep the lighting at close to the flowers as possible without burning them. With T5's you keep them as close as an inch or two away from the tops depending on your room environment and how much air circulation you have.
Grow strains that are naturally very dense.

This statement is pure bullshit - Many growers get very nice tight buds under T5 lights.
It is all about adapting your grow, and getting the most out of what you have.
Keep your lights right on the plants (2"), and provide adequate ventilation and you will get nice results.
.

where can u get 2700k tubes from?
im only using a 2 tube.
if i find a 2700k tube, could i just replace 1 of the tubes so i got both side of the spctrum.
BTW i'm only growing 1 plant to make sure i can get it right.

from any hydro or garden shop. The 4 foot T5 tubes usually run around $12USD each.

edit: from my experience, I haven't used T5's for flowering, but they own for vegging. Dare I say I get thicker, bushier plants with T5's than with MH lights of a similar lumen output.

im on my 2nd grow with t5 4ft 4 bulb setup

first harvest was what would be expectred for a first timer, it was good, i had maybe 4+ total oz off about 3 plants

my 2nd grow, i have more plants, sAme lights, but i added a 6 bulb 27w cfl setup at the end of my t5, and another 2ft 75w bulb attached to the t5 at other end

7 plants rocvking it and lloving it

if you plant to flower, get the dimmer bulbs, they appear to be orangeish in color when on, to my eyes.

they work great! dont let anybody tellyou something doesnt work, or work well until you do the research and testing yourself

When it comes to comparing the flower size of flowers grown under T5 to those grown under 600w HID or higher there is no contest.

But you're right I was being a bit harsh in regards to the density of the flowers you can get under a T5. Some growers do get some decently dense flowers under T5's.

Replace both your bulbs with the red spectrum ones. That's the light the plants want to see when they bloom. Go to greners.com for the bulbs and whatever else, they are good to deal with.

Here are their red 2' bulbs: http://www.greners.com/grow-lights/...o-2-fluorescent-tubes-3000k-bloom-single.html

This is your first time - mine too - so just use this as a learning experience. Next time, you'll want to have more lumens for sure. I'm using a 4' 8 bulb T5. I think I'm going to hang some 40 watt CFLs for some boost next time.

For some reason I don't think they make 2700k tubes for T5's, or at least not yet anyway. I think the more common bulb for a T5 and flowering would be 3000k. I got some off ebay recently and also have seen them on just about any hydro site that sells lighting. I mixed in some some 2700k cfls to get the warmer light temp. Good luck hope this helps.

Sammy,

Look here's the deal. Everyone on here has an opinion, you will get very confused, I did when I joined this forum originally. My original plan when I first decided to grow was to go with all T5's for veg and bloom. It will work and can turn out decent for you under T5's. However a HID light is just that "High Intensity". The High Density Lights are able to produce intense light to really penetrate down in your garden.

Just understand and know that much of this hobby is learned by simply jumping in and doing it, you have to form your own ways, methodology, etc. It just depends really on how much money you are willing to spend really like anything in life, you get what you pay for.
