Isolating Males for Future Breeding

I recently began a little breeding program and want to keep my selected males for future crosses.

My question is, what is the best way to keep my male genetics around without impregnating my other ladies? Should I build a special, sealed veg. cab for all the dudes? Keep them 100% offsite? What are my options???

This is a 90% indoor operation with occasional outdoors (seasonally.) I would like to breed year round though, so I am looking for an indoor solution.

If any experienced breeders would care to throw in their 2 cents, I could really use some help, thanks for any responses. :bigjoint:

As long as the male is in vegetative mode there shouldn't be any need to be concerned.

You could always keep a clone going, like grow out the male, clone it, and kill the parent, then grow the clone up, taking clones as you need pollen. This will add some age to your genetics, that is supposed to increase the stability of the genetics. But the big guys keep a male plant in veg and clone it as needed.

What I was worried about was the preflowers. I figured, females throw pistils when they are still in veg, why wouldn't the males chuck a little pollen? I know that one male pollen sack has enough pollen to knock up my whole house so I am concerned that even one little preflower could become a major issue if it opened and spread throughout my op. Any truth to this, or am I simply speculating here?

Well, I've never heard of that, but again I'm no expert. I guess it's possible, but the pollen is part of the flower, and without the underlying structure of the flower, I don't think it would be able to produce pollen. It takes a while for the flower to form, the balls to drop, and the flower to open. You should see anything funny well before it become a problem. Then again, a hermie only produces the nanners, so i guess anything is possible.

You may have to just keep an eye on your stable, but I wouldn't build a whole new environment. I keep my studs in the same area as my mothers and just clone as needed.

If you're really concerned, water is supposed to kill active pollen, so you can just mist your fathers everyday and any upcoming pollen will be killed. Just a theory.
