Jack’s 321 hydro/aero problem and fixed

Hey folks,

Just looking to post my findings running Jack’s and salts in general for nutrients. I’m not saying to do what I’m doing and there’s many ways to skin a cat.

Thought it might help someone who’s having the same issues

I have a commercial grow running high pressure aeroponics and one side is coco/perlite (wack of other stuff) on a drip system.

I’ve been running jack’s 321 with RO water for over a year and constantly ran into issues. Went to masterblend and same issues.

The issues were stunted growth, purple stems and stalks, weird multiple deficiencies and not awesome root zone which brought gnats to my fight.

I won’t list all that I tried but rather what seemed to fix the issues for me.

I tried all kinds of different ratios and that wasn’t the problem.

Once I started mixing based on ppms and not grams to gallon, things started to change.

I spoke to jr Peter’s and their main 321 feeding by ppm (.5 scale) is 600ppm of part A, 425 ppm of part B and 125ppm of epsom salt.

To achieve this, they call for 3.7gs part a, 2.4gs part b and 1.1gs of ES.

Due to my nute bags collecting moisture (mainly part b calnit) using the listed weights brought me nowhere near the suggested ppms except for the ES. I had to use almost 50% more calnit to hit the ppms.

So I started mixing a concentrate of each part and would mix the rez by ppm. Huge difference. I don’t use it at full strength. I dilute it.

Here’s the other main thing. I always ran my ph at 5.6 to 5.9. 6.1 tops. I started running at 6.2 and let it drift to 6.5. This unlocked everything. I’ve ran it this way through veg and flower. Within 3 days in the aero side, almost all red stems are gone, plants praying and got their vigor going.

This may not work for some nor am I suggesting to do this but if you’re having issues, maybe give this a try.
