Just starting out, need help = \

Hey, thanks for reading haha. Well, i have been wanting to grow for some time, and now im finally ready... sort of. I have been doing a bunch of research and it's all just too much and not specific to my way of growing.

I want to grow it on my roof in pots, a place that is . Initially i thought "hey, i'll just put some seeds in, chill around, let the rain take care of it and harvest in a bit"... but there is obviously sooo much more. I can't give it too much attention, cause i live with my parents, so my methods gotta be spuratic if possible, or at night. I do have some questions though...
Do i have to measure the pH?
What soil should i use?
How often do i have to water them?
I definitely have some more, but im gonna do some more research, but those are the questions i need to know asap... any extra info that i'd prolly need would be KICKASS... thanks a lot

no2. : mutipurpose compost will b fine for ure situation
no.3: none if the rains normal.. tis a plant that natrually lives outside
