keeping the light out

I am building a cabinet this weekend. I have been using a closet with cfl's, cardboard, and aluminum foil up until this point. I have a cheap 400w hps bulb, reflector, and ballast set up (non cool tube) from htgsupply. I also just ordered the 4" fan and carbon filter combo from them as well. What i was planning on building was 2' x 3.5' x 6' reinforced wooden structure made out of 1" x 1" and covering it with an unfinished wall paneling. With a large door. I was originally planning on using mdf, however, The cost of the fan has limited my budget. Now i have to use some free materials at my disposal. The cabinet is going to have a locking door It is also going to be air tight except for th inlet and outlet vent. The outlet vent is going to be at the top so that i can mount the fan and filter to the ceiling of the cabinet.

So my main question is how do i make the air inlet so that it will not let any light in? On the outlet there will be a fan and filter to block the outside light.

Also if anyone has any helpful tip let me know. thanks:leaf:

edit: I also ordered 50' mylar when i ordered the fan.

thats easy man, you can purchase a 6" or 4" 90 degree dryer vent elbow for about 3 bucks, paint the inside black so light can't bounce through it, and just put it in the wall with the opening facing straight down, you can grab one of these at a home depot, or pretty much any hardware store!

hope this helps!
