Hanging them upside down does not allow THC to run to the buds. It's sorta a old wive's tale. It's actually the process of drying and curing that allows your bud to be at it's peak potency. People got the idea that that THC was running to the buds but actually it's just the chemical reactions that occur during drying and curing that make it more potent that smoking it fresh. There is liquid being transported during drying but it's not THC, it's just water and nutrients that are evaporating. Check out this post of mine, it has a bunch of quotes from books, guides, and articles about this.

I nominate this post for the bullshit thread.

that was meant to say does NOT. Did you read the rest of the post? I guess not since you only quoted one sentence that you can tell was obviously an error since the rest of my post contradicts that.

Yikes.

The reason plants are hung upside down is purely cosmetic. It allows the buds to dry relaxed, and thus, tighter. IMO.
Plus, there's nothing to harmlessly tie them to on the top of the plant.
The branches are not filled with magical goo that runs down to cover your trichs.

stays relevant.
I will tell you straight up, my buds are dried laying on a flat screen, not hanging upside down. My buds are also top shelf shit that will get you ripped, and no other drying method, or curing method will improve that.

Potency is not based on curing.

and no matter what anyone says the roots do not contain thc I have heard of people actually boiling the roots which is completely pointless and there is my 2 cents

Ya know, I thought exactly this, until I noticed my entire harvest does seem to get much stronger as it slowly cures. I didn't believe it, but it's happened time and time again here.

I don't see where he is asking if the root does anything? At least that is what I got from reading his question. He wanted to know if he can cut it at the root and hang it upside down because his friend told him THV runs to the buds.

Genetics determine the potency of your bud but there are environmental factors at play too. Curing doesn't determine the strength either but it does play a role in whether the final product is at it's peak potency.

I agree with you, there is a difference in cured and uncured bud's potency. While it is true that genetics are the main determining factor in the strength of your bud, curing does positively affect potency by allowing your final product reaches it's peak potency. That's a scienctific fact. Curing allows THC (certain non-psychoactive cannabinoids in it not all) that isn't active in wet or fast dried buds to change chemically to it's active form. I'm not saying that ALL the THC isn't active in wet or fast dried buds, just certain cannabinoids.

Since I'm not in the mood to type it all out again, if you're interested in the chemical reaction that occurs, here is a post that I pasted same of the info into.

Ive read that there is no such thing as draining resin as well. I dont know who made that claim up but the number of people that will tell you buds are hung upside down so resin can drain seem to be pretty large. I know a glass blower out here who works in a local head shop that carries alot of different books on marijuana and high times and shit. we got into a conversation and he brought up the draining thing asking me if I did that step. I could not believe it. Heres a competant glass blower who is surrounded by so much information every day yet even he was fooled/ignorant.

And I also understand that curing does not make your bud an more potent than when it came off the lant. Curing merely lets the buds dry further and turns the THC completely psychoactive.
