L.E.D rope lights

ok so i was thinking the other day about how people use led lights to grow with now. well you know those L.E.D rope lights that people use in movie theaters or as x-mas lights well what if during flowering if you used a red led rope light and wrap it in around the plant like a christmas tree would this help with inner bud growths here is a link http://www.amazon.com/Scarlet-Spaci...1_5?ie=UTF8&s=furniture&qid=1265823156&sr=1-5

the wavelengths are almost that of the led grow lights so would this work for supplimental lighting for inner growth or would this be a waste of money??? any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated
 
I would think that weight & heat would be an issue with the areas that contact the plant. Besides, by the time you buy a half dozen of them, your money would probably be better spent on an LED light designed for growing. You could look into CFL's as a good alternative for side lighting also. If you do try it, let us know your results.

well i think i might try it my girl has a red and blue one just laying around so i'm gonna run a test next time i flower seeing as my crop is almost ready to cut right now also i dunno if the rope lights get hot enough to burn the plant or not
 
You wouldn't get enough intensity at all. I think the XMas and movie versions are very cheap sub one watt LED's. Don't forget the Inverse square law. This is the biggest issue you will have with LED's in my opinion.. They are only capable of putting intense light right on the canapy. The bottom of the plants will get nothing. I think they are the future but I don't think they are there yet. And if you are going to spend $1300 on a light I would want to make sure it can do the job by itself. I spoke to the rep for the company that makes the Grow Pannel Pro (300W LED supposedly to relace a 1000watt HPS). I asked if they had a money back guarntee or anything like that and there wasn't. That tells me that they don't have 100% confidence in their product yet. He also was trying to get me to just add the light to my HPS set up which is pointless. I think we are still a bit aways from truly great LED lighting for growing Marijuana.. It will be there pretty soon just not today..

im not talking about using them to grow with im usin a 400watt hps and want to get my inner buds bigger so i want to put this rope light inside the plant to get supplemental light cuz i cant use cfl so i would use this rope and wrap them in my plants or on sticks in my plants if the weight is to much

I agree with you on the LED arena at this point in time. They are very expensive to outfit even a small closet with them as a sole light source. They sell some smaller ones for less money, but I would think you would need many of them to get anywhere. The reports I have been reading from people trying them say that they produce a little less, but with more resins. I think that someday it will take over HPS & MH as a primary light source, but it will take some time & more development.

Hmmmm... I don't know. Remember that the leaves are what are going to react phototrophiclly to the light. So that is what you have to make sure you get the light on. I still think the LED light rope might not be a great idea as I question the power and spectrum of the cheap LED's that are probably used in the rope lights. I think you are better off with reflective mylar to get more light to the plant.. Just my 2 cents.. Good Luck!!

i agree they are not up to par on getting big buds but im not looking for them to do that im looking to fatten my tiny buds on the inside of my plant with these are you saying that having these ropes in the plant with my hps above i wouldn't achieve more weight??

Yes, how do you know if you're using the correct color spectrum?

And no, just because the light is blue or red doesn't make it the right color temp for vegging and flowering.

The light doesn't have to be directly next to the buds in order for the buds to grow...

the spectrum wavelenghts are almost that of growing LED lights so they must work

lol ya well how we gonna know if we dont try right im almost done flowering right now so i'll cut my plants get their individual weight and i'll try these rope lights on posts i guess since they probally to heavy for the plant and see if they produce more weight
 
maybe if you grew in an lst cage you could suspend it via the wire work.

i know what you mean about the need though, my 400w just isn't penetrating down to the cheese where she's wanting it and it's all very fluffy down there in ocmparison to the top buds, that's why i'm just buying a bigger light instead :lol:
 
well i dunno was just throwing it out there would like to get bigger light but budget is tight and im getting a grow tent soon to conceal my smelly girls ppl starting to notice the nice cotton candy with a hint of bud smell to it when they come over so need a tent and there like 200 plus a blower annd i need to buy a hood because i got a 400watt hps from my friend and it's like a parking lamp and i figure to heavy for a sun hut or whatever so need to buy new hood for the tent already looking at like 500-600 US so i dunno maybe get a bigger like next time but dunno how i'm going to keep temps down

lol i hear you on that, i grow with cfls and the lower branches are takin foreeeeeeever... i already chopped the top nug cus it was ready, but dam this is gettin' ridiculous lol.. i just keep hoping each day their getting plumped up but nah, they still fluffy as shit! :(
 
Even sun light has shadow, and thats is where you find shade to shelter you from the sun. Add side lights to your grow area will help. If you are on a budget why not use CFLs for the side? they care cheap and easily available. As for the robe LED, they are good for what they intended, on xmas trees. The lumen output on each LED is just too low to make much of an impact.
 
ya sorry man I dont think its worth it... unless you can find some evidence that it wont be a heat issue and also how much light does it produce?
