LED bulbs 60w vs 100w

Hi All,

Anyone have any thoughts about using LED bulbs for germinating seeds to prepare for a HID DWC system?

We found both 60w and 100w bulbs, also saw LED lights in flood light style.

We just bought two of the 5 inch aluminum reflector fixtures and bulb splitters. So there would be 4 seeds getting heat and light from 4 bulbs in 2 fixtures.

Both bulbs are 5000k

the 100w equivalent (14w) is 1500 lumen and has a Lumen/W ratio of 107.14
---versus---
the 60w equivalent (9w) is 840 lumen and has a Lumen/W ratio of 93.3

The 14w bulbs are 4 times as expensive. But are 1.55x watts, 1.78x lumens and 1.14x l/w ratio

Perhaps the answer is just get 6 of the 60w bulbs in 3 fixtures.

Again this is all to get from germination through having a root system robust enough to handle being placed in a DWC.

Yea, i can't figure out the price delta between 60w and 100w. I guess that 60w bulbs are subsidised by the feds.

Just get more 60's. i see them at Home Depot in boxes of 16 for 20 bucks.

Take off the lense if you can. You will get more light.

We know very little about electricity. So just upgrading to the bulb splitters is a bit unsettling.

Is it dangerous to have uncovered LED bulbs?

Not unless u go sticking fingers in there lol. Also be wary of water if you spray your ladys. Happy Growing!

These lights would be used just until the plants have a robust root system to go into a DWC bucket. *where we plan to try and scrog 4 plants. So we'll just up the light count to 8 bulbs in 4 splitters for the germination through pre-DWC stage.

Anyone have a recommendation on how long the roots should be when putting them into the DWC? Pictures would be ideal :)
