Led light height

hi, I never used led lights, I purchased 2 x 300 watt galaxy hydro lights, I only grow Autoflowering plants in a 4x4 tent, my usual grow will be no more than 4 plants at one time.
I am having difficulty in finding the right height for LEDs. Some say 18 inches some say 40 inches.
If you have experience with LEDs I would appreciate some comments.
Thanks

Hey man,

I am currently growing with an LED light, to be exact I am growing with a Kind LED K300l. I was in the same boat as you at first. I started with the light height around 12 inches. I noticed some stress on my plant so I raised it even higher, around 18 - 20 inches. I had it this height until I started flowering. Once flowering begun I brought the light down back to around 12 inches, the plants didn't seem to stress-out and my temperatures remained stable. So in summary, 12 to 18 inches seems to be a good medium. However, this is just for my current light; your results may vary. If I were you, using 2x300 watters, i'd start out around 18 inches, wait a week or two, if no change than drop them to 15 inches. I don't think i'd go lower than that, but that's my opinion of course. Good Luck!

A 300w led will not burn a plant unless its basically resting on the plant.

However they can become sunburnt like, but will not burn.

So go find its happy medium:hump:

My LED came with a list of do's and don'ts, and also had recommendations of light distance above plants in the various stages of growth. I'd suggest following their recommendation.

Id just say start high, see how yr plant responds, if they are turning their leaves up at it, lower it a bit, they look stressed, do the opposite...
There is no one standard when it comes to products that are mass produced...so many varying factors.
By the way, I usually start out at aprx 18", and adjust from there.

The info you got from these guys are exactly what I do... had a friend tell me put those lights super close, like an inch away... darn near killed them.... been growing with two 300w mars for a couple years now and I keep my lights up about 18". Like 42fast when the buds start getting bigger you can get about 12' away.

DG1959, I now have them set at 18" and will move a little closer. Would 3 to 4 Autoflowering plants be a good size footprint for 2 300 watts LEDs ?

I did 3 auto's and veg 2 photo's ... pain. had to rotate them around every day. Buying 2 more 300w. So yes, 4 auto's max.

LED's will bleach the leaves if too close. I put a couple 135's close to the plants because there was no real heat... Bad idea.
Now I have them (as side lights) 15-20" away and behind fans...works well

Nice if they all came with some general guidelines... mine just had a spec sheet, had to trial and error it in...

I never grew with lights to begin with, I have grown outdoors for almost 40 years. Now in a tent all is different, I had no indication in my box or a online support for setting the lights, which is a critical step, the auto's grow nicely under the LEDs.
I have now put them at 15". Thanks

I am using the same Galaxy LED lights i place mine 36 inches above my plants. I only run one light until i chang over to flowering then i run more. Plants that are in the veg cycle dont need as much light as plants in flowering.

24 to 36 inches during veg then 12 to 18 during flowering. If your plants are stretching to much and u want them to stack up put your light/lights closer during veg.
I will post pictures later when i,get home of 2 of the same plants grown different under same style light. One that i have close to the light at 24 inches away and the other grown in a differnt tent same light but at 36 inches away.
