Light While Drying?

So I am using the book "Grow Your Own" as my guide. I am ready to chop and I see in there it says to leave room lights on for first 36 hours of drying as it will deter mold growth while it still has high moisture. I have not seen that recommended anywhere else. Thoughts?

Welcome to RIU.

I do my main drying in a 2x2x6 tent and my overflow in a fabric/net hanging rack.

In the tent, I keep it completely dark and have a small fan on low, aiming away from the drying buds to keep air circulating a little.

The hanging rack, I put in the guest bathroom shower. The bathroom does not stay completely dark. There is a small North facing window that does not get direct sunlight.

In the tent, the humidity stays consistently higher, and the buds dry more slowly. In the bathroom on the rack, the buds tend to dry faster.

IMO, the buds that dry in the tent, more slowly and in the dark, have better aroma/flavor after a couple weeks cure.

I run my dehu hard for the 1st 3 days to remove the risk of mold... then slow it down from there.. taking 12 days in total before boxes then jars
