Lighting DWC and Soil

This is my second grow, last was outdoor, first time use with dwc and soil indoor. Just wondering about some light, i have a hps 1000 system and have 8 clones rooting right now(under CFL), should the light be further away from the dwc or soil during the vege and flower, or could i keep em the same height. I have it setup round 4 feet away right now...just wondered if it mattered whether it was in soil or dwc? Thanks

also general hydro nutes or fox farm? give me your thoughts?

already searched all of this just wanting some opinions no need to blast me about searching.

That 1000W lamp is going to get pretty hot. If you want it nice and close to your plants you will need some kind of air-cooled hood, preferably a Cool Tube along with an inline fan.

Nutes - Go with Foxfarm. I've used GH nutes and they were just ok, plus really easy to overfeed if you're not careful.

Soil or DWC? - It's up to how much of a challenge you want. Hydro isn't terribly difficult, but it does require more work than soil grows. Hydro usually requires more money than soil grows too, so there's that to consider. If you got the cash, go for it.

thanks for the input as of right now i have 4 in soil and 4 in a 8 gallon dwc system so we will see the turnout for both ;) should be fun
