Lighting I should chose

I am going to be starting my first grow here in the next few months. I am just curious what everyone thinks about the t5 lights? Are they worth using? I will most likely be doing about 10 plants to start off with. The room size is about 8x12 or 8x10, I don't think that matters much because I don't plan on using all the space.

If possible could you give me what an ideal set up would be. Lights? Good strains for beginners? Regular seeds or feminized?

My advice, I would start small with 1-3 plants just to figure things out. You just can't imagine all the possible issues you could end up running into.
Lights are a preference. I personally use LEDs with CFLs to supplement a bit more light. T5s are OK I never used HPS/MH but I know heat is a big deal with them.

Autos are a good choice to try the first time.
I purchased mine from marijuana-seeds.nl they give you free seeds too. Had them in 10 days

T5 is great for Vegative because it uses low energy consumption. How I have mine set up is for a continuous grow in Veg/seedling area i have 1 T5 for seedlings then they go under a 400W MH/HPS depends on what Im growing if there are autos in the bunch ill use HPS if no autos I usually use a MH. Then in Flowering I have 2 HPS. Generally you want to have 100W per plant is a good rule to go by. Make sure there are no light leaks and you are good to go. The HPS and MH run pretty hot so be sure you have good ventilation. Do you rent or own?

For seeds I suggest going to Herbies they advertise here and are really a great group of people always had the best service and very stealthy shipping.

how much you got to spend all at once?
if I had unlimited cheese I might try a higher end LED just for shitz & giggles...
if I was a serious pot head w/limited funds and wanted to skip all the BS, I'd get one of those reasonably priced cheapo Apollos/iPower deals on Amazon 600-100W I might add
if you are teenie (God forbid)/part time smoker/DIY'er/broke/hobbyist . check out CFL's

T5's? try HydroFarms 4x54 4ft unit for $100 ...you might need a few for that size area tho
