This is my first time growing and I think I am going to use CFLs since they are cheaper to buy and to run. IF this goes well I will eventually upgrade to HPS. I also don't want to burn them up (since it's my first time).

does anyone strongly recommend against CFLs?

I am only growing two autoflower plants.

Also, can someone please advise me what CFL bulbs to get? And maybe where they get them?

cfl`s are good to start off with.. i also use cfl`s seedlings really dont need all that power from an hps in the begining. i use my cfl`s for veg. and my hps for flower. you want cfl`s bullbs with the most lumens output but also in the 6500k spectrum for the veg. stage--you can go to www.ebay.com and type in cfl grow bulbs and it will show you some different types of cfl`s..

yeah, and throw some 2700k cfls to to your vegge lights, cas it good to have a lil bit of both spectrum.

Right now I am just getting autoflowering, does that make a difference?

Plus you guys recommened 2700k and 6500k for the veg stage. what about the flower stage?

You want 2700k for flowering, 5000k-6500k for veg. Of course, you can mix it up and use both types at once which is what I'm doing. I also added a T5 high output flouro strip which hangs from the ceiling. My CFLs are in clamp-on fixtures that I can move around.

You can buy CFL's anywhere. Grocery store, WalMart, hardware store, you name it. I'd go for 26W or 42W, because they are more efficient. More bulbs mean you can move them around more easily to make sure the entire plant is getting light, too.
