ok so my ph is low and i think my plant is locking out potassium, i went round the shops today looking for dolomite lime but i could not find it anywhere i could only get garden lime but its practically the same, right? So i how much and how do i use it?

add a little spring water to your next feeding and get a soil pH meter and a regular pH tester if you dont have one. black kow is usually at 6.5 so maybe but that on your top soil and water. if you go to the hydro store ask the clerk, he can tell you what the pH is of any soil.

Well to add lime you can dissolve a little bit in water, or just sprinkle some on top of the soil and water in. What you have is dolomite lime by the way...

I usually just mix a bit into my soil to start off with...haven't ever measured, just try not to add too much.

i tested my the run off yesterday and it was reading 5, so if i add maybe 1tsp of lime to a gallon of water and give it a good water with that will this correct my ph?

Don't bother adding it to the water. It's ground up rock and isn't going to dissolve and will just end up on the bottom of your watering can.

Add 2tbl/gallon of mix (3 gallon container=6tbl of lime), sprinkle on the surface of the mix and water it in. If you can, *scratch* it into the surface of the mix, if you can without disturbing the roots. Regular waterings will work it in.

In the future, add it to your mix before use, 1cup/cf of mix.

It takes some time to work, weeks at least, so don't add more when your pH doesn't come up in a couple of days. It will work, just be patient.

It's hard to over apply lime, but easy enough to under apply. Use the 2tbl/gallon of mix, 1tsp isn't going to do much of anything for the pH.

You are fine with the garden lime as long as it's not hydrated.

BTW, garden lime is from calcitic limestone, good stuff. Dolomite lime is from dolomitic limestone, also good stuff. Just different limestone deposits.

If it's granular, that's also ok. It is nothing but powdered limestone formed into pellets with a fast dissolving binder. Makes it easier to work with. There is no need to crush it up.
