LST-SOG combo.

HI.I'm basically planing to lst 16 plants in a 4x4 growing space and just wondering if anyone has ever done a combo of lst+sog?

ive done it with 6 plants in smaller cab... i got good results, but you gotta have the right strain i guess. I did it with C-99 and they exploded to a full canopy.

i never grew VK so i dont know about that one....prolly best to find a strain that branches out well and does good topped. But i have had strains that didnt do well topped at all and actually hurt yields. Do as much research on VK to find out what she likes. WIth most indicas i find just a SoG works best with just fat tops. But thats just me.

Good luck with this tho, sounds like it will be monster

16 plants lst'd in a 4x4 space?
Idk about that. The plants take up significantly more space horizontally than they do vertically.
If you can do it, more power to you.

He has a good point...you might starve the plants of fresh air if your not moving enuf air thru the bottoms. You may be better off filling that room with clones in 1 or 2 gal pots?

I have a 747cfm inline fan suckin' air out of my grow tent 24/7.
To be honest ,the only reason I want to start 16 plants is to get a full use of my 16 site wilma. (with 3 galoon pots).I had done lst with great success b4 but never lsted so many plants to be grown in sog style. .Theoretically I should be able to pull this out but not really am sure how it will work.

Yea theoreticaly it should work out then...it shouldnt be much diff than 6 pots like i did just a lot bigger scale. Id trim all the lower fluff and grow all tops..gonna be explosive and a good amount of upkeep. You should make a journal for it if you decide to do it, sounds pretty wild.

I have 34" x 40" (9.44 sq ft) and all I could manage was 6 plants, and they aren't even all LST'd currently, but will be in a few weeks. I use tomato cages for training CCOB style to help keep them from getting too wide or tall.

The first 2 pics show the 400w MH I added to flower today, to go with my 600w HPS.

Chronic Clone, Trained on January 19th and put under my first CCOB cage. Transitioned to flower the next day.

Damn she looks good! I'm pretty much gonna apply the same timing on my future grows, veg and lst clones for a month then put em under 1000 hid in my flowering room.Although I'm gonna be using 3 gal pots. do you think the pot size would be adequeate(using hydroton /hydro drip system)? I see u went for 10 gal pots ?

So here the math goes =p
If you can manage 6 plants in a 9.44 square feet space, I should be able to manage 8.16 plants in 13 square feet growing area.So If I push it a lil hard I might be able shove 10 plants in there.should still be considered a sog grow=D Just not sure about my 3 gal pots that came with the wilma.
What do you think?_)
Here's a link to the hydro system that I use for flowering http://www.hydroponics-hydroponics.com/pd-atami-wilma-16-pot-system.cfm

Those DIY air-pails I use/made are 3.5ga each. Just like the 12" dia. 5ga pails everyone uses, but shorter. I also have a few #3 smart pots to try using, which are the same diameter only shorter. The small fabric smart pots in the veg room background of this pic are 2 gallon smart pots (I now veg in 1ga smart pots before transplanting to the 3.5ga pails for training.

My current/new plan is:

I germ my seed and grow it to 5 or 6 nodes and then top it back to the first node to grow 2 main colas. I plan to veg in the small pots until the 2 main colas are 15" - 18" tall each. The circumference of the pail is 36" so I want to be able to train each cola around half the pot.

I will then transplant and try to favor the stalk to one edge of the new pot and train the stems around the bottom of the cage. Once trained I plan to only let it veg for 7 - 10 more days before flowering, to help minimize stretch. The ones in my flower box currently spent a lot more time vegging after training than I should have, because I trained them all at the same time but staggered their flower dates.

Here is my veg box from 2 days ago, so you can see the progression of 6 seeds, about 10 days between each. I am waiting for the wonder woman to get tall enough to transplant/train.

So you have topped the plants once and now you are going to lst them.Do you think there will be any increase yield-wise (or in the amount of kolas)over just lsting your plants with no topping or is it just a space and time issue(delay-vegging) .Because I was thinking of doing exactly the same for my next grow where I'll have clones vegging in my veg-tent until the flower room is available(for approximately 1.5 month) .
I don't want them to fill my veg-tent as I also have a couple of mothers in there . So the only reason I m planning on topping them before lsting is to keep them small and compact and avoid bushing out my mothers.
So did you have any specific reason behind doing topping-lst mix?

Most of the stuff I picked up from the Hobbes Grow Lab thread - https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/360125-new-growers-needed-grow-lab.html#post4545778

It is easier to train/bend 2 smaller colas, and they only have to veg to half the height, compared to trying to wrap one 36" cola around the whole pot. I may try running one plant thru my perpetual garden without topping eventually, so I can compare the process and results. I would guess it wouldnt fill in the cage as densely, but the side colas would be thicker because I dont top them off, and the thick main cola would be allowed to flower.

Yeah 16 plants in a 4x4 space is going to a be a bunch of work in the trimming department. I think you should go with 8, maybe 12 tops
