mitral regurgitation

Hello!!

I have a friend that wants to try smoking but he has a heart condition called mitral regurgitation.

Mitral regurgitation is a disorder in which the mitral valve on the left side of the heart does not close properly.

The doctors say that his current condition is good and my friend also works out quite often (I'm simply worried about the effect from weed where your heart beats fast).

Please respond! Thanks!

It depends on what strain your friend is smoking, and how his body reacts to different strains. Our hearts work based on Boyle's law which dictates the outward amount of pressure of fluid (blood in this case) into the heart and eventually out of the aorta and to the rest of the body.

Basically your friend is having oxygenated blood (from the left ventricle) being "stalled" if you will in his left ventricle. The left side of his heart (right side if you were to face him in the anatomical position.)

Sounds like his heart rate is just dropping too low. Maybe try smoking amounts in progressively larger quantities and pairing that with something that would increase his heart rate like coffee. If the herb he is smoking is acting as stimuli to the mitral regurgitation, then increasing his heart rate and blood pressure probably wouldn't be a bad thing.

If you're familiar with epinephrine, when someone goes into shock that would often be used in the past. Using coffee before the fact could potentially act as a much more subdued precursor to having to get stuck with an epi pen. Coffee also vasoconstricts and increases blood pressure, so going back to the Boyle's law dealio that might be able to help mitigate his mitral regurgitation. Hope this helps!

Retired RN here suggesting he use a good quality vape. Mitral valve regurg is common. Check Leafly for strains low in negative attributes such as paranoia or dizziness.
