Mixed Lighting?

Hey everyone, This is my first thread here and I guess you would say I have a pretty noob question. I have grown before, but it wasnt anything serious. Just stuck some seeds in the ground and whatever happened, happened. Got about a 1/2 lb of bud from a couple plants. I think I planted about 10 and ended up with 3 plants at the end.

I recently decided that I wanted to try again but this time around I wanted to get some slightly better results. (Planning to thin out to 9-10 plants from about 40 seedlings as of now. They're about 6" or so.)

OK so my question is that I've heard of indoor and outdoor growing, but is it possible to do both in a crop, and would it be beneficial? I have built a small grow box that I can startup seedlings and clones in. So... I was wondering if I could start off plants in there and get a healthy base plant going and transfer them outside after about 2' of growth to finish up with the rest of the veg and flowering stages? My concern tho is that if I take them out of a 18 hour light environment and place them outside where we are getting 13-14 hours of daylight right now it would cause them to force flower, right? I dunno... I'm new to the technical side of it all, I've watched some vids I found online and been lurking around the threads for a couple days reading up, and I havent seen anything on it. Can it work? Is it possible to get good results with this and would it be beneficial?

That whole lengthy question/idea above was actually not the initial purpose for building the grow box tho... Sooo... now I give to you option 2 (the original idea ) I was planning to grow all outdoors and use the growbox to flower small clones of the plants to establish males in order to eliminate seeds before budding, as well as catching another clone of all the females to keep back as a mother plant incase I come across a good strain.. hope that makes sense. I got seeds from a...uhm, I guess you would say a commercial farmer . I Was told it was purple skunk but I'm really not sure what they are. He IS fairly reliable. But anyways, after building the growbox I placed a couple seedlings in there for kicks and I noticed that the plants look significantly better, even after as little as 2 days under the lights, which sparked "option 1" Which would be the best road to travel?

Btw the box is extremely basic, planning to upgrade the lights shortly. the box is 4'x4' with 4 florescent 18" 20w tubes and reversed wrapping paper in there. Ill post a couple pics tomorrow.

So I come to you guys from some help and advice... anyone?

Cheers

Here are a couple pics of the grow so far. As I said before this is my first REAL attempt. Trying to get about 9/10 decent females out of them. We'll see what happens.

Just over a week later I think:

.

Ill post a couple more updated pics tomorrow.. Actually I guess I should start a journal. Yah, I'll do that. :hump:

Heh
sorry but I just found this thread
I do EXACTLY what you are doing
Start/Veg a while under lights > move to outdoors for the summer with all kinds of plants.
It is probably one of the most productive ways to grow if you can do it.
I however do this with vegetables as I can not have pot in my yard where I live.
I stay indoors for growing pot.
I know it is the best way to get a jump on the summer season
and can reach better harvests sooner by jump starting plants (any plants) indoors before the last frost.
Good luck with your grow
the plants look great.

Oh BTW
any time you change the light cycle for a good period of time to where the plants see less light or more hours of darkness,
they will start into the bloom phase naturally, this transition is hormonal and triggered at about the 12 hr darkness point
or the equinox outdoors.
Hope that answers your question
