My DIY Quantum build thread...

Well folks - I finally have everything ordered and am waiting on parts to come in. I wanted to document my build on these forums - and probably will need some help along the way (probably, yea more like most definitely lol - GrowMau5 where are you??? lol). Anyways, Here is my sketchup for my light I will be running 4 quantum QB288's at 3500k and 4 QB288's at 4000k along with 8 660nm LEDS, 8 770nm LEDS and finally 8 880nm Infrared LEDS. The QB288's will be powered by 2x HLG-480H-C2100 and the other LED's will be powered by 3x ELN-60-27p. I also will be controlling the power with a bluefish wifi controller -- Hoping to be able to use the emerson effect to my advantage and control the red's and infrareds throughout the build. This baby will be in a 4.5x4.5 tent with 5-7 plants going at once.

Will probably have to runt his at 1/2 strength for that amount of plant but my plan was to have the power ready for when i want to grow my plant quantities.

Let me know your thoughts fellow RIU guys, I couldn't have done this without you all.

Dimensions on light - 48" x 36" 1/8" aluminum sheet.
4@ QB288 - 3500k
4@ QB288 - 4000k
8@ 660nm XPE photo red LED
8@ 720 XPE far red LED
8@ 840 XPE Infrared LED

Emerson Effect. Originally got the idea from GrowMau5 when he did the Canopy 12. I began reading up on the emerson effect and I believe in the far red's / infrared pushing along the photosynthesis in the plants.

Emerson effect occurs at 670 and 700. 840 is way past that and should not effect photosynthesis.

Curious to see how this works out.

From my reading infrareds do effect it. I will be able to control the ir channel with the bluefish also will take par readings and other measurements so I will report that all here.

I have been using deep red in the am for wake up and far red for sleep for a couple years now and plants mature more quickly

It may affect plants in other ways, but photosynthesis requires 670 and 700nm photons. Higher energy photons can be downconverted and the energy expended as heat, but there is no physical process that can add energy to a photon to bring it up to 700 nm.

Actually its is the other way around. The LONGER the wavelength, the LESS energy the photons contain. The two photosystems (I & II) need photons with AT LEAST 680/700nm. Photons with short wavelength can get processed at both photosystems.

Yes, that is what I said - the 840nm (that OP is using) cannot be brought up in energy level (to 700 nm) to be used in photosynthesis.

However that does not preclude it from the possibility of being used in other processes.

I think IR is another underutilized area of study regarding our LED builds......there are about 100 nm's worth, of good IR at least, but which ones, lol.... :peace:

True - you could spend so much time researching this area, that you forget to build the damn light -- lol I am looking at it as a work in progress and will most lkely swap out NM down the road to see which works best for certain situations and grows. Fully intend to document it all right here also.
