My final setup, need input

Hey guys. So going through my first grow currently and it has been pretty fun but I still have a lot to learn. I currently am still vegging (like a month in or so) until I can get my 600 watt hps setup.

This hps setup will be in my bedroom in probably an aprox 5 or 6 feet on the sides and all the way up to the ceiling so like 8 feet i think. Right next to my window so I can vent the hot air out with a fan in the window. I am still not sure how much heat this will produce until I do it but the window will be a big advantage.

I do not think I am going to use a cool tube because I don't really want to be running air ducting everywhere but I am open to suggestions

Not really sure what kind of hood/reflector setup to get this is where I really need some help/suggestions. I was thinking of hanging it using chains that way I can adjust it up a link or 2 as it grows etc.

for the ballast I was thinking lumatek http://www.amazon.com/Lumatek-LK600-Dial-A-Watt-Dimmable-E-Ballast/dp/B00286N7NQ
something of the sorts.

can't decide on the model of bulb but was going between these 2:

http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Hortilux-Super-HPS-Lamp- 600W.asp

and for the walls to this grow I was thinking of using mylar or the space blankets or whatever that are reflective and just close off a section of my room for the flowering stages.

any and all suggestions are appreciated thanks guys

As for hanging chain links are fine but I just use paratrooper cord or clothline rope, tie those using proper knots directly to reflector instead of hangers saving 6-12"s and run the cord up through the ceiling of grow room(in the pic it's just holes drilled through ceiling but my other rooms have panda film ceiling so I drilled holes through the 2x4s that run across top of room to support lights/filters/fans, then guide them down to the front or side and secure it to this.

This is a top view of a small clone room holding one of the two somewhat heavy T5 reflectors, but you get the idea. In one of my larger flower rooms I still use yoyo hangers, but my other flower and both veg rooms I use this cord setup. It's just cord, drywall screws and a piece of 2x2 or 2x4 or whatever secured to frame of room with drywall screws, or you can screw drywall screws into actual frame. Then four dry wall screws per light drilled into wood until thread is no longer seen, then just secure cords around exposed non-threaded area of drywall screws like you would dock a boat using a figure 8 tie. It's much more simple then how I'm explaining it.

Lumatek is the best choice IMO. And amazon is the best place to buy em.

I have no experience with sunmaster bulbs. I use Digilux and Lumateks. Lumateks I'm experimenting with but Digiluxs I've used for years and the reason I use them is because they are priced well, they are the brightest, highest lumens and their warranty is amazing. If the bulb blows(very rare) or is dead on arrival or failures for whatever reason within 12 months all you do is send them a picture of the bulb with the cap pulled off like here

and they will send you a new bulb free within 1-2 weeks after filling out online form you email them along with the pic. Can't beat that. The Eye is over-priced and over-rated, if you decide on Digilux buy them here

For walls I use nothing buy panda film. I build frame of room using 2x2s, you can use 2x4s to for a heavy duty room, and staple panda on for walls, ceiling and floor. I use velcro stripped panda door and have side flaps to secure over sides of door to make sure of no light leaks. Here is a shot of my one room's door a little over halfway open.

you can see how th evelcro is secured to frame and then to back of panda, flaps are at sides in white but they cover the area where the velcro meets the door for light leaks when door is shut.

Here.

You can see velcro pieces on black, which is door shut. The white is the flap which is just more panda film cut to length. next pic is flap shut covering up any lights leaks there may be coming from where the velcro meets the door in between the wood frame and panda door.

Here. Pretty dark pic.

flap closed, no possibility for light leaks.

I have already posted these pics on here in different threads but I'm just too lazy to take new pics and the rooms these rooms are in are all in darkness now.

Good growing!

Here is the actual statement they give about Eye brand bulbs at that site.

"Eye Hortilux has instructed their distributors to stop selling plantlightinghydroponics Hortilux branded products because we refuse to sell their products at an artificial price, established by Hortilux, that is 50% higher than our regular selling prices. Hortilux lamps will be discontinued as we run out of stock. We will be offering replacement products equal to or with better performance than Hortilux branded products at discounted prices."

Hortilux are thieves.

thanks for the replies man!

Still not sure what type of hood I should get. Thanks for all the various tips! Definitely going to stick with sun master bulbs.

so far:

lumatek digital ballast
sunmaster 600 watt bulb
not sure what kind of hood

lovely girl you have there :)

again thanks so far for the info/help

As for hoods here is a greners comparison of best reflectors. If you can control your heat you can just use a cheap eco hood in that size of room and get great light, I believe that cheapest hood which are the ones I use, the Xtrasuns, is the best rated in value and near the top ten reflectors.

I did spend a lot of time debating a reflector in the beginning but my ability to keep temps down due to my climate and the grow room a/c I have for the summer months got me to grab the non air-cooled hoods. I even use an extra bare bulb in the middle of room during peak flowering(weeks 4-7).

I might have to try a sunmaster bulb one round, being they are only 60 bucks there I may grab one this year.
