First of all, PLEASE feel free to comment in this grow journal if you have any suggestions or comments. I’ll actually most likely be asking some questions too since I’m still very much a beginner.
I started with 3 Autos in rockwool. OG Kush, Northern Lights and White widow. The rockwool cubes I used were a major issue for me. I experienced overwatering, under watering, possible nutrient deficiency or nutrient burn, helmet head, you name it. In the end, 2 out of three died and the third one, the White Widow, was just struggling to hang on with no roots showing through the cube when there definitely should have been. I gently opened it up exposing some of the root ball which was looking a bit brown and tossed it in some soil. Since then it has shown some nice growth but I know it’s behind schedule and as it’s an auto, it will likely stay pretty small with low yields at harvest. But I’m learning from my mistakes and won’t be using rockwool any longer.
Since then I have switched to rapid rooters and started 2 new autos. Critical Mass and Zkittles. I have been very happy with the rapid rooters. The plugs were pre-moistened in a sealed tray and watering is a breeze. Just keep about 1/4 inch of water in the bottom of the rapid rooter tray and the plugs soaked up exactly what they needed when they needed it. I didn’t soak my seeds, I didn’t use the paper towel method, I just popped them into the rooters, covered the holes with a bit of the plug I tore off the corner and in just two short days, I had sprouts. In three days I had roots showing through the bottom of one plug and into soil they both went.
the pictures I’ll attach here will be of my sad little seedling in rockwool cubes(RIP) and some of my progress picture over the last 8 Days when the second round of seeds were placed into their rapid rooter plugs.
As you can see, one of the seedlings in rockwool fared much better than the other two which suffered a version of helmet head where a thin membrane from within the shell remains attached to the cotalydon holding them shut. I got the membranes off but too little too late. The white widow lives on.
