Need help- A couple of genetics/breeding questions

I crossed a few strains this season. Can I simply apply selective breeding over several grows to isolate and stabilize the genetics of the mother, or will I have to backcross at some point with another plant of the same genetics ?

Also I was wondering how many generations it usually takes to do something like this.

hey man

well, my breeding class was more than two years ago, and my work has not been in that area....so, dont quote me on this, but I believe you want to get to F3, then you'll need to backcross to parent, and you should get the desired trait homozygous in mendelian ratios. assuming of course these are single gene traits segregating in mendelian ratios and not subject to some mysterious epigenetic interaction.

I do plant transformations/molecular biology/tissue culture...and I find breeding complicated as fuck.

i'm sure theres lots of info online about this somewhere....and i'll try and find my notes from that class and let you know what I can find out.

anyways, if you find the right answer let me know if I was right/close
