Can anyone direct me to where (even if it's another thread) I can get the info about setting up a HPS system (including the ballast). I can get 200-250 watt HPS bulbs at the store for $22, but they require certain ballasts.

Go on eBay, they have some great deals. Get yourself a newer ballast. Old ones are magnetic. The new ones are electronic or digital, uses 20% less power also produce less heat. Also get one that is switchable from 220 to 110. Makes it easier to sell if you decide to get rid of it. Buy the whole package together. It doesn't make sense to piece it together. You can buy a cheap 400w HPS with a ballast for under a $100. HTGsupply has one for under a $100. But I would go with a decent electronic not a magnetic ballast.

;) dont be a fool if you'r scared...

buy yourself a cased Ballast, then a reflector of choice, a hps bulb has to be equal to the ballasts output (250W = 250HPS & 400w = 400w HPS 600W = 600W HPS ) Only. u cant put a 400watt hps bulb through a 600w ballast.....

Erm nothing hard about the hps system.....

All the ballasts on HTGsupply are magnetic. Any idea where I can get electronic?

I might end up just getting the 400 watt HPS magnetic ballast for $95. It comes with reflector, etc. I wish I knew how much my energy company charges per kW hour. (400 watts) x (18 hrs/day) x (30 days) would give me a good idea on how many Watt hrs I use per month.
