Need some clarification on what I've done with my ISO

So I made iso in the normal manner, frozen 99.99% iso, frozen Purple Barney bud, pour iso onto bud, exposed it only for ~30 seconds including filtering time, and I evaporated off the iso but I wasn't satified with the result. It was still too dark, so I then dissolved it in hot everclear, then froze it overnight. This was supposed to freeze out the waxes while leaving the THC, and it looked like it worked since I got black tar on the bottom and nice, clear, golden colored alcohol which evaporates into a sticky gold colored substance. While this was still dissolved in the everclear, I poured it over some bud that I had dried until crispy and coated the buds well, then dried under a fan. The bud now is certainly stronger, and gives you the kind of head high where you forget to finish the bowl because something else has distracted you, which doesn't happen as much with the un-coated bud. It also smokes very cleanly and smoothly, no coughing. But I am also have left this black tar-like substance that if I dip bud into it, gives me a very intense body high and extreme couch lock, with almost no head high. So what the heck is going on? I had read on another forum that the ethanol step makes the useless waxes fall out of solution so they can be filtered off, but from smoking it, it hardly seems useless. Thanks for the help.

Over a hundred views and not even a guess? Alright, what I think has happened is that iso is an agressive solvent so it stripped the THC, plus the other waxes and cannabinoids. Then when I dissolved the heat purged iso hash in the hot everclear and froze out the waxes, the THC remained in the everclear while the other more medicinal cannibinoids stayed with the waxes, which is why the buds I dipped in the everclear/thc mixture give a spacey head high and the black molasses-like stuff gets me really stoned. Does this make sense to anyone or am I just talking out my ass?

Well, hopefully someone else has refined iso this way and didn't just throw away the waxes when they got the clear, golden ethanol. BTW, the golden colored hash smokes very smoothly but doesn't have much flavor compared to the black hash which is very harsh on the throat and very expansive, but adds lot of flavor. And the hgih between them, even though they both came from the same bud and I'm smoking them both on more of that bud, is like the difference between a good strong hybrid and a full on couch lock indica.

I think it is kind of like the rain cloud theory. What you did was create little snow flakes around the bits of organic matter, they sank to the bottom and froze there and because the amount of water was so minimal and the temp of the solution was so catylistic it is kinda like a hail storm on a hot summer day. Anything that was not dissolved in the solution fully became hail as the water molecules stuck and flash froze to the particulate. They fell to the bottom like hail and froze there.

i find with extracts that there is one method and chemical compound that works best for the head and the other that contains the dark "icky stuff" that works best for the body and deep bone pain. I am sure there are other people that can explain the chemical compounds ect. better then i ... basically you made a little hail storm in a jar.

or so i would guess

Iso and ethanol don't dissolve exactly the same things, so when winterizing Iso with ethanol, some non polar waxes and other non active ingredients will be left behind, and mixed with it will be some of the heavier, harder to dissolve constituets.

You can do a similar thing with an oil pipe. The heavier constituets cool and fall out of the vapor first, so the accumulation in the oil pipe has little head high and significant body effect.

The best bet is to save the isopropyl for rinsing out globes, adapters, nails etc. When you do make it hot rinse. Its so not suitable co-solvent and when tried w co2 the effects are amplified to really see the difference. Looked good on the glass, but turned all dark when scraped on a blade. Ethanol has a better chance at collecting on the blade the same color as on the plate. Once the seperation has been made, ill be damned if I'm going to put it back on what I tried hard to keep away, the debris. So it makes no sense to. Dilute the extract w plant matter. Fuck combustion, smoking fouls up the taste of oil. So I'm not setting it on fire when I know that vaping preserves these fragile molecules and its anti-oxidant properties.
