Just bought my inline fan with ducting (waiting on my carbon scrubber)

Now my grow needs to be as stealth as possible but the fan kinda loud theres no way on earth I can get away with running it straight out the box.

I covered the whole thing in quite a bit of foam I hav lying around and that has maybe taken away 30% of the sound.

Im wondering what I can do next to almost totally deaden the sound.

Ive heard making a box from MDF and filling all the gaps around the fan with fibreglass insulation could do the trick.

Juat though I would ask around first before I goto Home Depot.

search "duct muffler" on the net - 60 bucks, works great

get a variable speed controller for the fan and dial it down to the level you need.

Suspend it from the cieling with those thick black rubber tie downs, like bunjies, but stronger.....This step will help keep any noise, and/or vibrations isolated.:peace:

I think i need something a bit more drastic than hanging it from the ceiling i mean, if and when I build a much bigger cabinet that will be perfect.

My inline fan is mixed flow, basically most if not all the noise comes from the fan itself, the intake and extract ducts dont reallt make any noise at all.

Ive covered the whole fan in foam and a some material which ive taped all around very tightly, this has worked a little.

Just need something that will definately kill this sound, a speed control will work a little but when it gets really hot here I will need to turn it right up then im back to the same problem.

Buy a better fan....... my inline sucks 450ish CFM's it is in the room next to my bedroom, that thing is running full tilt, no speed control, no foam, just hanging, vented outside. my headboard is on the common wall and we can NOT hear it at all.

You could build a box for it, Carpet inside and out, pack it full of DENSE foam....dunno, I would be afraid of putting anything around any motor, motors produce heat (yes, I realize it's a fan and it's pulling it's own heat away), electrical and heat cause fires.....................................................

Yeah the carpet idea is what i have heard can work really well, been looking online for ages now.

The motor will get hot but doesnt that cool itself down by the fan being on as it pulling air past the motor all the time its running.

Dont want any fires.

Build a double box, with a 2" gap between, carpet both inside and out, but don't pack the foam around ???????????? kinda like false floors and walls for home theaters......

nail, piece of string, and a pencil, then use a jig saw..................Good luck, post pics when done, I am curious as to how you fix this problem..............
