Need Urgent Help Please!

Hi,

I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm sorry I haven't posted in the introductions thread yet but I need some advice and I need it fast.

This is our first time growing and my husband has been covering 2 Jilly Bean plants to light dep them so they will flower. Monday night he was uncovering them and he got bitten in the foot by a rattlesnake and he is in the hospital. I'm 48 years old and I have Fibromyalgia. I have been doing my best to cover and uncover them, but the frame over the plants is quite a bit taller than I am and it's been extremely difficult for me to get them covered. Especially when I'm waiting for a rattlesnake to come out of nowhere any second and bite me. I'm so stressed out that I am now in a painful flare and I can't keep covering them every night.

I'm thinking of going ahead and harvesting them now but I don't want to ruin them. I know they are very close to being ready. So I wanted to show some pictures here and ask if you think they are ready and I could go ahead and harvest them. It's going to be a while before my husband can walk again and I know I can't keep this up. It's killing me. Please tell me if you think it would be okay to harvest these now. Thank you so much.

Hope he is ok. They have couple more weeks ,but in this very strange case you will have to harvest.
I was picturing you pushing him in a wheelchair in there with your frame but thats prob not possible.
After harvest get a pest controller in there.

I'm new so I won't give advice about harvesting yet. My girl has fibro too and I can understand how difficult it must be for you. I really hope you can find someone to help soon. Those flare ups can be horrible and last for days, I've seen it first hand. Good luck, and I hope your hubby is ok.

Ideally you can hang on another week or 2, but it doesn't sound like that will work for you. No, you won't ruin them... you might not like the buzz though. :(

I personally don't like the buzz anyway. The only way I use it is in canna butter on a piece of toast because I don't get that buzz and it helps me relax and sleep. But he just became a vendor for one of the dispensaries and he was planning to sell some of it to help defray the cost of growing it. We are on well water and the electrical cost of pumping the water up is outrageous. Not to mention the cost of the nutrients, soil, and everything else.

And I'm sure the dispensary would care how good it is. And the majority of their customers are probably after a good buzz. I haven't made a decision yet but I get closer to harvesting every time I have to go out there and try to cover it. It's hard, but I think it wouldn't be quite as bad if I wasn't so afraid I'm going be the next snakebite victim. My cat got bitten two days after the hubby and I still haven't found the friggen snake. When I do, I'll be making a wallet out of him!

I'm so sorry your girl has Fibro. It's a terrible thing to live with for the sufferer and those who have to watch the suffering. My thoughts are with you both.

If you can hang in there for a week, GH have some stuff called Ripen. It helps plants along to, well, ripening. I have used it when problems such as mould or budrot or pest mean I need to harvest early but your case is so much more deserving. They are not ready yet and you could be in headache territory (I always get bad headaches with bud harvested too early) If you can give them a dose of ripen and hang in there as long as you can, the smoke will be soooo much better. Hope hubby gets back on his feet soon. Peace W

Snakes typically like to live in holes and under large objects like old stumps. Is there any such habitats on your property that might conceal it? We had a snake living under and old stump in my yard for some time. Once I removed the stump the snake left to find another home.

Our property is riddled with squirrel holes, gopher holes, tree stumps etc. We live in the foothills. There's plenty of places for them to hide, unfortunately.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds as if getting rid of the snake isn't an easy solution like it was here. Be careful and best of luck to you both. Did your cat make it?

Yes, the cat is fine. She was lucky and only got one fang in her paw and very little venom. The swelling was gone the next day and this morning she left a dead gopher at the back door for me.

Hi,
im a beginner myself and feel for you, i too suffer from fibro and RA and am having a flare so i know the pain you are in. but i will give u my opinion not advice... they look very close to ready, you are gonna have to go with your gut on this one. im guessing you will harvest for about 5-7 days so that should help and you cld always let them hang in the dark for longer then a week. it will not damage your crop, if anything it will just make it that much smoother when it's time to smoke it.
im sorry about your hubby and hope he recovers quickly..... good luck!

I feel bad about this whole siutation....I hope your husband recovers soon. Personally, I would go ahead and harvest. It's not worth the stress/pain for you and I don't think it will make much of a difference in the end - especially if they are currently not being properly covered for 12/12.

Good Luck!

Would it hurt them to just not cover for the last week or so? Unless you are in Alaska with 24 hours of sun a day I don't think it will hermie or revert to veg in a week, will it?
