hi all
great site full of sweet info.. thanks heaps.
im also new ha and might need to remove heat and odor for a cabinet thats about 1.5ft squared and 5ft high. possibly be 1 plant ( 2 kaya gold females 2inch high outside at the moment) under just cfls. i have 2 x 130w 6400k for veg and 1 x 130w 2700k for flower. this is to start and will add a few 20w on each side as it grows (thinking l have 1 x 6400k on also in flower plus the 2 x 20w 2700k on the walls down below?),

I only want to use pc fans because of convenience , price and volume. Was thinking about paying 20 bucks or so for a decent 120mm silent pc fan or two for the exhaust pumping around 80 to 100 CFM. but they need to be silent.

For odor, has anyone tried using say 10 old 120mm pc fan plastic frames ( i may be lucky to have access to a bin of old fans). cut out all the fan insides and line them up together so it makes a tunnel about 24cm long. screw them together with layers of stretched panty hose and activated carbon in between each fan body; or have layers of activated carbon filter material in between, or both at the same time... this would make many layers of activated carbon for the air to be sucked/pushed through in a compact and sturdy construction.

Do you think this would work? is it best to push or suck the air through carbon scrubbers?

Would either crushed carbon or carbon filter material from a hepa be better? could both at the same time make a difference?

what size pc fan would you need so suck through that much carbon? with 2 pc fans running 2 filters could be made with a 5 pc fan body tunnel of about 6inches long each decreasing the resistance on the fans... but i have no idea how strong pc fans need to be for a basic room let alone a filter to...

you could layer as much carbon as needed in between each layer and hang it vertically maybe, but do you think this could work for my small room? or could putting in the scrubbers decrease air flow so much and make it over heat?

also, with/without the scrubber, what size pc fan do you think i should get to cool the room with the lights i have? it has to be silent and its hard to find info sometimes

and i guess while im going, what do you all think about my plans with lighting and cabinet size and is there any potential in going ahead, or what ideas do you have that might improve on what i have?

id appreciate any help..

thanks for your help laterzzz

your plan looks good, yes you can make your own scrubber make sure you buy activated carbon though. also you want to be sucking the air through it not pushing imo.... if you're doing it DIY its gonna be trial an error, but go for it

Good Luck! I have made a large carbon scrubber before. It never really worked properly though. If i where you i would stick with a timed mister. With only one plant you should not have to much of a problem with smell. If you want something that workd pretty good buy a 12"x12" 1900 3m airfilter and a sheet of avtive carbon(for air cleaners) Then cut both to fit over exhaust. Good luck!

awesome thanks for your help!! those other ideas are alot easier, but just a few votes of confidence will be enough for the motivation to give the rig a est build. im lucky to have access to an air flow meter so will do a few trials with different configurations to see what differences appear. i wonder if theres an advantage to having a decent space between each filtering stage to create some sort of pressure drop area, or something lol, i dunno. does anyone have any ideas? any engineering knowledge about airflow characteristics? carbon filter.png
