New Grower with some questions

What's up guys? I've been researching this for a little while and just had a few questions.. Been lurking around the forum a bit, tried searching and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

1. Can I use a combination of florescent lights and MH/HPS to achieve the required lumens?

2. If I get a 4' by 4' area would a couple florescent lights and a 600 watt MH/HPS be enough?

3. I'm not really even sure where to begin with nutrients - Any tips would be greatly appreciated

4. I have some seedlings going now, approx how much of the root should shot before I plant them?

5. How long should they be in vegitative state?

1. Yes, for sure.
2. I have mostly read 1 600w HPS per square meter, so that seems bang on to me at least.
3. Reading is your only answer there, look at what works for others that have similar setup to you and look closely at how it works out for you. I think it's safe to say that when it comes to nutrients only your own experience (and the more the better) will really tell you what you need to know there.
4. Up to you, I rooted in 1" cubes and as soon as strong root was showing out of that I transplanted. Have not had any problems with that.
5. Again, up to you and varying on conditions. I recently vegged my first grow for 4 weeks and they looked HUGE to me! I will definately veg for less next time.
