Would it be stupid of me to join NORML while I grow pot illegally? I'm just a huge supporter of the movement and I want to contribute.

Of course not! Growing is one thing; helping to change the law is a different matter entirely.

Look at it this way - I may participate in an effort to legally raise the speed limit. But in the meantime me (and everybody else) are ticket bait.

Why would it be stupid?
Isn't the purpose of that organization to make what you are doing in hiding, legal?

My reason for asking is that I just don't want my name on paper if it's gonna be a pain in the ass, very good point about speed limits.

Well, obviously you wouldn't want to go in and let slip that you're already growing and smoking so the law would only raise your comfort level, but I don't see any reason not to join.
