I’ve got no matting left nft systems ,will the plants grow ok with out it.as any body had issues not using it...? Cheers

There is a big difference between pipe/tube NFT systems and tray/table systems. In pipe/tube systems the roots are confined to a narrow space and mats are not needed. In the tray systems there is space for the roots to spread out wide - but they wont do it as well without the mat.

It can. I saw a grower - I think in the EU - growing in like 12" square plastic pipe. He used mats with good effect. There is no reason why mats wouldnt work in smaller pipes/tubes, but they are not really needed unless they are BIG tubes.
The OP didnt provide ANY system details - which is why I asked the question to begin with. Plus, most people have no clue about how NFT is supposed to be done or why it works or doesnt work well.
