Nutrient Question

Hey everyone, I'm new here and new to growing. I just built a simple hydro setup in a cedar closet in my basement. I got 2 14gal rubbermaid tubs (6 plants in each) and I bought some dyna-grow and dyna-bloom.

I was going to just follow the mixing instructions on the bottles, but my friend suggested I as here to see if the mixing requirements are different for weed.

Is there a specific mixing PPM guideline I should follow for this stuff.....like how much solution per gallon should I use? And also, I've read about getting a PPM tester....can anyone recommend one...preferably on the cheaper side?

I haven't personally worked with the nutes you've got, but rule of thumb is to start at about half the recommended amount and work your way up based on the response you get from your plants. I use a Hanna 98129 combo and have had a good experience with it so far. With electronics, you get what you pay for. If you buy something cheap, don't expect accurate measurements. Whatever you do buy, make sure it can be calibrated and buy the calibration and storage solutions. This is one of those things you either do properly or not at all. If you don't have the money or patience for it, then don't worry because you won't be any worse off than if you bought a crappy one.
The manufacturer of the nutes may have some TDS data available based off of volumetric mixing measurements. The only thing you won't know is the TDS of your water unless you are using reverse osmosis. Hope this helps.

I started with four plants. Three turned out male. Never had a problem with cheap nutes but I completely dumped and rinsed out my rubbermade 6 gal tank every 5-7 days. Was crazy about the PH levels for the first month but my PH in my city is perfect. Now, I don't even check ph. Just change the solutions often.

There is also a thread floating around some where on the Lucas feeding schedule it has a spreadsheet where you plug in your nute numbers and it will taylor a nice feeding schedule for you. Just do a search on Lucas feeding schedule spreadsheet somthing might come up.
