Hi All

I'm off to Amsterdam tomorrow, I'm going for the weekend, be back on Sunday. I'm going to watch the K-1 on Saturday in the Amsterdam ArenA its gonna take up most of the day, so I have Friday and Sunday, so what do you all recommend, where should I go, what should I do, going with the missus by the way, so spending all my money on drugged up sex ain't gonna happen. I wouldn't mind seeing something Dutch, I don't wanna just spend all my time in coffee shops. So good places to eat, good clubs, theatre, stuff of intrest, recommendations appreciated.

Hey roseman

The pot was superb mostly, all the hash I tried was excellent, if a little expensive, I tried a couple of different types of weed, but it didn't blow my mind like I thought it would, so I didn't really see the point in paying for what I have here at home. So I bought some Super Pollen, its a lovely spicy aromatic taste and crumbles in your fingers really nice, then some Tbizla, which is along the same lines as the super pollen, only not as pungent and harder, but very sticky, then I got some Afgahni, just to rekindle memories of my youth, its a soft black hash. After that I got some Nepalese, which again is black but softer than the Afgahni with a slightly different taste, its so smooth really delightful to smoke, so delightful I had to get some Nepalese Temple hash, again a soft black hash but again softer rhan the Nepalese, it almost melts in the heat of your hand. Buy this time my pockets had almost run dry, and it was time to go and get the train to the Airport. All in all it was great weekend, seen some sites, watched the fighting and smoked some lovely hash. I'll put a pic in my gallery of what I have left. I'll try and get some better pictures tomorrow.

If anyone is going to Amsterdam one peice of advice, take atleat twice as much money as you think you will need.

Good advice. While I lived in Germany I visited the Dam a few times. One U.S. Dollar is about .75 cents compared to the Euro, so be aware of that. The bud is cheaper there, but the hotels are expensive. A cheap alternative to this would be bringing sleeping bags and going to one of the many hostels. Did you walk the red-light district? Its like window shopping for whores.. and legal. Sorry to here about your expenditures but its a once in a life time opp. so hope you enjoyed.

Hi

I did walk the redlight district, as my hotel was in the district I had too, its enjoyable. Not including the hotel or the fighting I spent over 600 Euros thats over £400 but I'm not complaining, I took money to spend, not to try and save. Some of the bud is cheaper, some isn't. The hash is surely expensive. The argentinian steakhouses are well worth a visit. Stay away from Febo's, extremely cheap, but the food is muck. China town is well worth a visit, so are some of the floating restaraunts. We spent about 5 hours on Saturday just walking. Once you get out of the redlight district, and slightly out from centrum everything changes, it goes from an extremely crowded noisy busy city, to a beautiful leafy quiet canal filled town. The redlight district is good to see, but see one part of it and basically all the rest is the same. Same type of shops, same type of people same hustle bustle. Get your gear, then get out. I really enjoyed my stay there, and I'm only an hours flight away, I would defiently go back again, just gotta start saving.

I have a friend who just got back, and he said he was surprised to see how many people mixed tobacco with their pot.
He was also shocked at how young the hookers are there.

If that is all you are taking to go to Amsterdam, I would wait and save a few more quid! As a veteran traveler to the great city on canals, you can burn that up in just a day or so... especially if that includes your lodging!

Stay away from the coffeeshops on/near the Leidseplein and the Red Light as they will rip you off! Check out this link <http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com/General/Best.html> as this will help you find some of the good coffeeshops — I reccommend Grey Area and Tweede Kamer; the Bush Doctor on Thorbeckeplein (just off Rembrantsplein) is great for hash. Down by Spuistraat are some really good ones also!

You can get some good cheap eats along the Leidsestraat and over by the Rembrantsplein. A fun place to hang with the locals is The Arena, a former orphanage turned into hotel, restaurant and night club. If you go up to the Leidseplein and head to the canal behind the Melkveg (Milky Way) club, there is a great little bar along the Leidsegracht canal that serves a gazillion different Belgian beers (Kastel is a nice strong one - 12-14%). The Joordan is a nice area to wander and there are some nice bars around there too.

Have fun... I'm off for the 'Dam in two weeks myself! https://www.rollitup.org/images/smilies/joint.gif

No chance my friend, you need to save as much as you can, 300 euros for 5 days won't work, trust me. and everything ^^ he said.

Hey Roseman

I smoke mostly joints, with tobacco, so it seemed very familiar to me, and to be honest I only saw maybe two or three people smoking pipes or bongs. I can't really say that the prossie tarts looked that young to me, infact there seemed to be lots of older 50's prossies.
