Hey guys, i just wanted to know, is it because of the curing and the length of time?

My bud that im curing in jars right now in a nice cool dark place, is kind of still airy. it isn't nice and compact and dense. Why? Why isn't it compressing and becoming more compact?

Here is what i did...

Chopped the plant(it was ready) hung for like 3-4 days then started to seperate the branches from the main stem.. then hung again for 2 days.

Then i cut the buds off and stored in the jar..

Now its been 2 weeks. and it still is airy and brittle, not dense.

The smell is really strong though, doesn't smell like the typical bud, but smells really sweet and sour.

Somone enlighten me plz

buds dont usually dense up that much during curing, its the lights that make dense buds... what lights did you have,,, CFL's are notorious for having fluffy buds

Denser doesn't always mean better.. I find the fluffyier a bud ussually the more potent it is, but that could just mean it blows.

yeah, compacting isnt usually something that curing does, the density is a direct result of
1. genetics
2. lighting
3. maturation timing

sometimes its all in the genes, sometimes cfl's or improper lighting, and sometimes ppl cut too soon, didnt let the plant thicken up at the end.

yeah i grew sativa dom. crosses for ahwhile that left me with some airy buds. then i switched from a mh to hps and that helped tighten them up , but they still were a bit fluffy but in that awesome sativa way we all love. bud should not get denser as it dries . it will loose moistur of course and that causes it to shrink into its self a little.want rockhard buds grow a solid chunky indica.

yeah.. i think i cut to early.. is all..

I mean the bud looks good, but when i take one out it smells like hay... the jar smells like sweet good stuff :)

If you put it in a ziplock freezer bag, it will compact it just a little. I just flipped it over every time I aired it out.

if you are looking for the dense buds u will have to put them in a bag tighter than you would have them curing..dense buds you are used to getting commercially are nice and compact because most people have them in a bag that they usually keep pretty tight. also if you have a really high watt to sq. ft. ratio your buds will naturally be way more dense..thats where you find the good donkey buds that seem to break off in little chunks..which is way easier for fitting a perfect bowl...or blunt
