PC Case Micro: CFL, DWC First Attempt!

Making my first attempt with a little micro grow. I have some iPhone shots of the case, but if anyone is interested, I can get some better shots with a digi cam.

I stripped out an old mid tower pc case, and rigged up a fan to an ac adapter, and threw in three 26 watt clfs. Two 6500k, and one 2700k for a grand total of 78 watts, and 4800 lumen.

The strain is Orange Crush x Kush, which is bag seed. The stuff I happened to get was completely full of seeds, so the smoke was mediocre at best. Im hoping I can do this right to see what it should have tasted and felt like.

Germination
I germinated in a paper towel and ziplock bag. It was placed on top of my apple tv, which is always, and consistently warm at about 80-90F. This caused the seeds to crack extremely quickly.

Day 1-7: Seeds were put ph balanced rockwool using bottled spring water adjusted with vinegar to a PH of 5-6. I'm waiting on a digital PH meter, so I'm relying on an aquarium indicator test kit. The seedlings took 7 full days to sprout. Unfortunately I did not start taking pictures until quite a bit later.

Day 7+: So after the seedlings popped, the growth seemed to be a tad slow, but they were looking extremely healthy.

Pics post sprout:

Seline can be seen on the left, Betty on the right.

Week 2: Growth has been steady, topped up the res, no nutrients added yet. Seline and Betty look healthy.

Day 19 (Yesterday): In 6 days since the last pictures were taken, Advanced Nutrients Micro, Grow, and Bloom were added. The growth was outstanding and vigorous for both the girls.

Day 20 (Today): I have access to a much better digi cam now, so no more shitty iPhone pics will be posted again! I'll snap a few better quality photos tonight and post them up asap. Thanks for checking out the grow! Comments, suggestions, criticism, and most of all tips would be appreciated.

Well today is day 21, there has been some change since the last pictures, but most importantly, they are much better quality!

Day 21: If anyone that's reading this cares to reply; any ideas as to why some of Seline's (left) leaves are slightly curled inwards? Also I'll be flushing out the res and refilling it with ph balanced spring water and additional nutes this sunday. Anyways on to the pics:

Betty 1:

Seline 1: Again, this leaf curling kind of concerns me, any ideas:

First off, thanks for the support winkdogg420!

Well another day, and another update. The ladies are growing great so far, but I have one pic of Betty's leaf which looks like there is just the slightest hint of yellowing around the borders, also the "vein" in the middle of the leaf is quite yellow, is this cause for concern?

Day 22:

Betty 1:

Betty's Leaf, is this a problem?? Note the slight yellowing around the edge of the leaf:

Betty all soaked down (yes I know you like it wet!)

Well another day another update. I have a question for anyone reading this: Would now be the right time to top If im planning to throw them into flower next sunday? Also is it advisable to top or fim the plant and also utilize the LST method of training? Thanks in advance

Day 23: Girls are looking good. Unfortunately, Betty suffered some burns due to the microscopic effect of water droplets on her leaf. Its nothing serious, and I'm sure its not that big of a deal. I'm planning to change out the res tonight, and also up the nutes to 3/4 strength. Only two pics for today:

Seline and Betty:

Thats it for today :)

Well another day another update. Last night I thoroughly cleaned out the res and added 3/4 advanced nutrient series GMB. The girls are growing so quickly that I'm going to need to change to flowering asap. I have finals until Tuesday so it'll have to wait until then. They both seem to be quite busy and short, which is a good thing for the PC case.

Day 24:
PH: 5.6
Nutes: 3/4 strength

Seline:

Both ladies:

And lastly day 14 for comparison against today (day 24)

And that it for today, good afternoon, good evning, and good night!

Haha yes, it is a tupperware container by glade! Its mylar tape though, tiny lil res, but hopefully that'll keep the size down. I just topped both of them last night which should help with lateral growth rather than vertical.

Thanks for the post! I'll get some pics up at some point this week :blsmoke:

Back for another update! Both the girls have been topped (on day 24) and seem to be doing fine. I'm seeing two new side growth coming up on Betty already, but she's always been the faster of the two. I'm planning to give them about a week to recover and then I'll throw em into flower. Both girls are STINKY! and they're still in veg. The smell is that skunky kush smell we all know. This worries me a bit as I'd imagine they'll be a lot worse come flowering. Anyways on to the pics.

These are some pics from day 28. After being topped, there has been some lateral growth. I started them on 12/12 last night as well (day 28 ). The lighting has been changed to 2700k bulbs. I'll change out the res and put in bloom nutes on Sunday as well.

Day 28:
Betty: Some of her leaves are burnt as you can see. This is a result of the leaves being too close to the cfls after being sprayed with water. Betty suffered for this stupid mistake.

Seline: has been fine so far. She's the slower grower, and she has had less lateral growth since topping. She, however, looks like the healthiest of the two.

Another couple days have past and its time for another update. The girls have been doing well, however, I', noticing a lot of stress on Betty. She was burnt a couple of times from spraying her leaves. Seline is the healthiest of the two and I think will be the better producer. After topping the ladies, the growth has been great; there are two nice colas on each girl, and the tops are all even in height. Last night I changed out the res and nutes and put in full strength flowering stuff (Advanced Nutrents GMB still).

As you can see, the girls are in very close proximity of each other, this is due to the small size of the case. The pictures appear slightly more yellowish/red due to the 2700k spectrum of cfls. I've also added 42watt soft white cfl bringing the total to 7400 lumens in 1.5 sqft. After the photos were taken I replaced one 2700k cfl with a 6500k daylight bulb for a more complete spectrum.

Day 31 (3 of flowering): PH: 5.8, Temp: 22.8C (73f), 25%RH.

I turned the res around, Betty is now on the right, Seline on the left:

Betty: I've done some minor trimming by removing the leaves that were >50% dead/burnt

It's been a week since I last updated the journal, and there has been some nice growth since then. It's been 10 days since I've started 12/12, but the ladies (hopefully) have yet to show sex. The topping did an excellent job of keeping the height down, and there has been lots of lateral growth, and almost no vertical growth with the exception of the colas after topping. I changed out the res last night and put in a fresh nutrient solution. The ladies are extremely thirsty, drinking almost 500ml since the res was changed out.

I recieved a PH pen in the mail last week, and what a difference it makes! I was using an aquarium ph tester which went as low as 5, and it was not very accurate at all. It seems this whole time, I have been running my res at least at 6.5-7 since the PH was slowly rising. I now know accurately and exactly what the value is, and have maintained 5.7 since then. This PH issue probably caused the growth to slow a bit due to the plants being unable to take up nutrients. Oh well, thats what first grows are for!

I've also constructed a little carbon filter out of a cd spindle since smell is starting to become more and more of a problem. I attached it after the pics were taken, so I'll see how effective it really is.

Day 38: I appologise the pics dont show off the entire plant, but that is due to the space constrictions in this tiny PC case. On to the pics.

Seline:

Betty: She's always been the more vigorous of the two and it shows.

Both ladies. It's a jungle!:

is that really in a pc case? that looks pretty damn good. lets see another root shot.
lol yup, its a medium sized pc tower, not too huge. Root shot coming up!

It's been a few days since I last updated the journal, the girls have been flowering for 16 days and still have not showed me what sex they are! Last night I cleaned out the res and filled it up with full strength nutes as per the lucas formula. The formula is considerably more aggressive than I've been doing, but so far the girls love it! I was a bit concerned that they might burn a bit, but it seems that my inexperience has kept me from using nutes aggressively enough. The topping I did 5 days before switching to 12/12 has been extremely successful with two nice tops on each of the girls. The carbon filter I added seems to be working very, very well with no odor escaping the case. I'll see how it holds up once the ladies (hopefully) start throwin buds. Anyways, enough chit chat, on to the pics.

Day 44: The pictures were difficult to get due to the small space. The girls are very close together, and it seems more like a mini SOG or a jungle of some sort.

Seline: Does anyone know what those bumps are on the stalk? Both of the plants have them, but they're not balls like males would have.

Betty's two tops growing:

My own personal mini jungle of cannabis:

Root porn: The roots are actually white, but appear to be yellowish due to lighting and the flash

Just thought I'd update the journal again. I checked on the plants before the lights went out and noticed pistils on both of them! 2/2 bag seed are officially beautiful female plants! I'm so excited and I kind of know what it feels like to be a proud father now! Yay!
