so this means my ph is to alkaline right, needs to be brought down.

my plants havent been growing to well lately, and i guessing this is why.

i prepped some acid type water around 5.0ph for my rockwool cubes and have about a gallong left of this water. could i use this to treat my potted soil plants to bring the ph down. i used a lemon to get the water for the rockwool cubes at 5.0ph.

i checked my faucet water that i have been leaving outside for evap to get chlorine and its at 8.0 also. My drinking water is pretty neutral, so i will be using that for a while.

from more reaserch it seems that our plants like the ph more on the south side (acidic) that sweet or alkaline right?

Almost all plants like their soil on the acidic side. I don't know about the lemon method, but 5.0 is kinda low.

I had to lower my ph once...I used lemon juice...if I ever have to do it again I will go do it properly and buy some ph down from the hydro store.

he he, cool thanks for being honest. theirs only 2 hydro shops where i live and their at least 25 miles away. and theirs something about going in their that gets me nervouse. dont know what it is.

so i try to stick with good old homedepot. i guess, most of what i learn will be trial and error. but thanks for recommending a plan (B) for me.

it has worked, i tried it on my 15 gallon camelias i have outside, and it brought the ph down. a whole gallon with 1/2 lemon made the gallon water ph way belowe 5.0 adding thise to a soil ph of above 8.0 brought it down to 6.0-7.0.

applied this to my special plants and my ph has changed i know this because they look happier. they had signs of burns, but since i know i been giving them nutrients and since i know the soil has nutrients, i decided to flush the soil a couple times, check the ph, and discovered it was really high, so it seems i unblocked it by dropping the ph.

will check new levels right now.

sweet fuckin deal....i knew it would work....plus you must be smart for bein able to take care of it....rep +

bringin up a dead thread...but you used lemons and it worked fine? i've just been realizing that my pH was a little off and have been using lemon juice to bring the pH down but have been getting some posts that this is not good for the plants?!?

you didn't have any more pH problems to the end?

Home Depot has dolomite lime, which is a great ph buffer. You can mix dry dolomite lime into the top 4-5 inches of your soil and then give them a good watering, this will bring your soil ph to 7.0 which is where it should be. Try it works great and costs less, its an organic fix as well.

The stuff that does the big hit on water is sodium hydrogen sulphate. If you are trying to avoid the grow shops you should be able to purchase it in most swimming pool stores.

brings your soil to 7, yea i've been using that, but don't you want it to be under 7.0? that locks some nutes up .

Well its a buffer. Add the amount to keep it at the desired level. Too much will make/keep it at 7.0, but wont go higher from the lime.

But you can counteract the soil pH with the water pH.

The lime will eventually wash out some too.

if ur going organic go with vinegar if not go with pH DOWN, of phos acid.

dolmite lime, i do not agree with.. if ur trying to lower..start off with water around 6.2 for 1-2 watering then go down to 5.5 for 1-2 watering then bring it up to 6.0, and maybe u will eventually need to go up to 6.2-6.6
