my friend just did almost a whole crop with new nutes with no ec meter. hers broke and she didnt replace it till now. when she checked her ppm was 1500 with 3 weeks to go, but they are some of the fattest i've EVER seen. but keep in mind she always ph'd and shes been growing for 10 yrs. ive never done it tho.

you can give your plants severe nute burn if you dont start off small and watch the leaves. it can go up very fast in hydro

Without a meter your just guessing hydro isnt very forgiving like soil im sure u already kno. Even the smallest of a pH jump or ppm/ec jump can send your plants spiralin down a path you dont want.....def. and all types of stuff. Most of all you want to know where the plants threshhold for nutes are. Some plants like higher pH/ppm/ec than others. Perfect example...the other day b4 i left for work i did my mornin check of the garden. I adjusted the pH the night b4 and it was reading clearly a 5.5 and i watered b4 bed. runnin late as usual i bypassed the check of the res. and left. Come to find later that my babies got fed with a pH of 6.3 the next time around and by the time i got home they were not very happy about it at all. So now for the next few days i have to watch them super close and keep things abso. perfect (quote unqoute) So they may recover and resume norm. growin. Right now im plagued with slow growth and purplish stems, leaves, and viens.....not cool at all. but here young and although yield may suffer a lil bit im sure they'll pull through........bottom line....meters aer worth it!- happy growing!!
