Poopy weed

Well my first grow and havest and my buds like like poopy shwag in my opinion. They're dark brown and yellowish. Do they look terrible?

I'm debating if I should just turn it all into edibles.

The plant has full mature seeds. (Even though I had no male plants in the outdoor garden and there was no bananas on the plants) Does this make it automatically weaker/bad? The buds also weren't super compact or anything. I probably have several ounces of this. Ugh.

These hung and dried for 5-6 days (First batch I harvested off the plant) Then put them in a jar last night and today they felt wet so I'm letting it sit to dry out some more before back in the jar.

Heres some pictures with and without flash on.

Don't beat yourself up, outdoor growing is tough and you should be happy you took your first grow to harvest and have smokeable buds. I grew up smoking seeded weed so it's not a big deal. Just make sure you get a good Frisbee to do some de-seeding in. Frosty, beautiful buds are nice but usually come from indoor grows. Outdoors is for weight and yield in my opinion and indoors is where you can really get the perfect buds since you have all the control. Drying should take 10-14 days at 60-65 degrees and around 60% humidity. Drying fast will kill the cure of your weed and not let it develop a good flavor. Drying and curing are tricky and will come with experience. Congrats on getting your first grow into jars, it's a good start!!

Idk, I’m sure we’ve all smoked some moldy or questionable bud before, but I’d be careful with your harvest and really make sure you don’t have some bud rot going on.. hard to tell from pics but looks like some brown spots. If you break it open and it smells sour, sweet, or just off, throw it away. Good luck!

No weird or off smells...

Just smells like bud or slightly hay

The color is brown goldish towards the bottom of the stems.

Your nose should tell you if there’s mold, definitely smells foul and not in a good way. Just make sure the stems aren’t still bendy when you jar it. They should be dry enough where the stems snap for the most part. That’s a good indicator when to jar.

When I had my little commercial op running, I really emphasized post harvest care: 64*ishF (as cold as my dinky a/c would go), 61-64%rh, hang whole plants and leave it for minimum of like 6-8 weeks before trimming and jar/bagging, sometimes leaving stuff hanging for 5+months without much degradation. Basically drying and stabilizing in a “curing” room; a big jar if you will. No burping or weird stuff, just a long slow cool drying process. I also had good filtered air circulation in the room catching any nasty stuff and preventing rot. Everyone has their own way, but this did wonders for shelf life and texture. I have stuff over 2 years old that you’d think was jarred a few months ago, sticky, oily, and as potent and smooth as anything.

Congrats on your first harvest! My first plant was a life changing experience.

Pic's of bud before drying? Do you know what humidity you were at when you hung them? Do you know your humidity in the jar?

I am smoking buds now that look similar to yours but they were grown indoors under LEDs. It is super lemon haze and I waited about 12 weeks from the "flip" to the harvest. Plants that were harvested at 10 weeks are not brown like that. Many buds are green inside. So perhaps an earlier harvest helps. the brown buds were also in a more humid environment and I had issues with the bud rot at the end..........

They still work for me but the quality is different from the green buds which I like better.

Brown buds were also the ones nearest to the lights. So if the comparison (between indoor and outdoor) is valid- Then a longer time to harvest and increased humidity and temperature may be playing a role.....................

Humidity was at about 60 to 70 percent on the brown buds at harvest and closer to 40 percent for the green buds. We had a monsoon rain storm that crapped on my perfect grow cloud! it got into my basement where I grow..................

Best regards- it is a learning thing and you will figure it out with a few grows I bet. I have since bought a dehumidifier.................

Thanks everyone who commented. I realized that I definitely added the buds to the jars to early. The 2nd batch of the plant I let dry longer untill the outside of the buds felt more cripsy, and the small stems lightly snap. I put the 2nd batch into jars and it has an awesome chronic smell even days later and didn't turn brown.

The first batch however still has a hay smell to it that is not exactly great or bad. Is there anything I can do with that batch sense I have least a few ounces? Maybe make some hash, or would it be okay for edibles? Or should I just toss it?

Maybe press it into oil if you got a hair straightener and parchment paper experiment or turn it to coconut oil

No, bro, don't toss it. You can extract, cobb it or grind it up for edibles. If it's clean [no mold], I'd find a way to use it. You have a good deal of time involved there, get something out of it. You will continue to learn and develop your skills. I suggest you start a grow journal and keep it simple but regular. We all think we'll remember stuff but, hey, we're stoners. A journal will allow you to look back and see what was tried and how it worked. Good growing...

Thanks guys! I think I will try to make oil or hash out of it. Ill also start a grow journal to look back on, thats a great idea!

Ps: Heres from the 2nd plant Im starting to harvest this week. Also outdoors.
