pot size for veg state only

OK so I'm planning on doing an indoor veg/outdoor flowering grow this summer. What pot size do I need for just the vegetative state up until preflower (after that it will be transplanted outside)? I was thinking 8" diameter would be enough? Obviously I want my plants to be big and healthy, but I also don't want to use 3 gallon buckets if the roots will never get that big in the veg. state.

yea man 8" in veg is fine.

i would not recomend transplanting at all. keep the plant in the same container. the normal recomendation is 1 gal of soil for every 1' of plant height. considering your moving it out doors, you'll need atleast a 5 gal container
