So power si has good reviews. I'm thinking about trying it. I know it's derived from other source then most of the silica products. Has anyone used it.
Armor Si is derived from potassium silicate.
Power Si is derived from Monosilicic Acid.

Seems Monosilicic acid is more easily available through absorption. Any thoughts?

I was reading up on this a while back and these labels started looking like snake oil or something as it didn’t make sense

Monosikicic acid is just silicon dioxide Dissolved in water.

But silicon dioxide solubility in water is so small that even trying to dissolve straight powdered silicon dioxide into your res to get 50ppm silicon would never happen. So god knows how they claim to have a concentrated form that you can dilute?

Well I was reading raw soluble silica claiming that silicon dioxide is “flowable” as in it’s very fine dust and it flows in the water resevoir and the plants uptake the silica when it gets stuck in their roots. And the tiny amount that can dissolve in the water gets replaced by the “flowable dust” as the dissolved silica is taken up too.

Not sure if I’m describing that right but the concept sorta did make sense to me. But raw solubles are absurd prices and their silica is just derived from diatoms so it’s basically diatomaceous earth.

I’ve just bought myself a 20kg back of diatomaceous earth for pennies gonna start adding 1g/ gal to my res every week and see if the stems harden up still

Yea you did. Ive read about Raw and Watched Harley's videos on youtube. He's a knowledgeable guy!

Well if you plan on using raw silica don’t - it literally is just diatomaceous earth they are literally just buying DE for 10 cents a kilo and selling it on for like 100 dollars a kilo it’s crazy

I wrote that wrong. I plant on using a liquid silica product.

What I just witnessed looks really good. I put 1g/gal of diatomaceous earth into my hydro res. When you put a dollop into the water it floats at first but then it’s like the individual dust particles are magnetic towards each other they rapidly accumulate together and then start disappearing into the water

I know it’s technically not soluble but “flowable” is definitely a good way of describing what it does. The particles are so tiny I don’t see them being a problem for roots to take up.

They cost pennies and don’t fuck with the PH

I got a few bags around for the cockroaches. Ill look into it. Im guessing Power Si is on a nano level. I could be wrong but Chelated Silica will obviously uptake rather then regular silica.

I have been using expanded silicon dioxide in the form of dessicant crystals and crystal kitty litter. It turns into sort of a gelatin when it gets wet, but I have no idea how soluble it is exactly. I know my plants have been healthy and bug resistant in a way they never were in the past. I went from plants that died from gnats in the roots to no longer even needing to worry about the gnats. I can't overstate how huge a difference it has been. I have tried DE in the past for silica and pest control, but it is a bit more alkaline than I would like rather than acidic like the hydrolyzed SiO2. When I put in enough powdered DE to truly stop the bugs, the plants started acting like they were suffering high pH; I put in the same or larger amount of kitty litter crystals and not only do they not seem to suffer, but they become absurdly tolerant of abuse.
