Preparing for second grow

As a newb, I realized that I should have used much bigger pots on this grow. I am planning on using 5 gal buckets the next time provided they will fit in my box.

With my setup now, when I water them, I put enough water in so that it starts running out into the catch tray on the bottom. With the next ones being in much bigger pots, is it necessary or should I still water so that the water starts running out as well? I did it this way so that I could tell the soil was saturated from top to bottom.

Even though I know its not the best thing to do I also saturate the damn pots. Its best to get the soil moist, so that there is still some air in the pots. Plants love air ya know.

Another thing that will increase the penetrating power of your solution is to add a little dish soap to your watering jug. Just a couple drops per gallon.

That was my thinking as well. After I water them it usually take about 3-4 days until the soil is dry and I repeat the process. But just wondering if it is ok to put that much water in all at one time in 5 gal buckets.

When your starting out, dont. You dont want the bottum to turn to mud. A few weeks in, I guess you would be ok.
Right, I understand that there is no need to have it wet when roots are not that deep yet. But as time progresses and the roots are reaching far and wide is when I was thinking of doing that. At the beginning using a gallon of water would probably suffice.
