Problem germinating

Sooo. I bought some plastic cups from the dollar store and their see through. I took 17 bagseeds and put them in a damp napkin. I wrapped them up and put them in one of the plastic cups after putting about a quarter ounce of water in the bottom of the cup. This was tuesday i believe. I've heard it takes 24 hours to start rooting and then i've heard it takes up to a week. So i don't know what to believe. I checked them today and their the same as they were before. When should i start seeing change? and when i do start seeing change, how long shuld i wait to pop them in some soil? Thanks for the time.

it usually takes 1-4 days depending on strain and seed size, I'm not 100 percent on what your cup lookes like but just makes sure you keep the paper towel moist not under water, i dont know if that what you were doing just wanted to make sure, but yea if there brown theyll pop just wait a while and keep it moist

i have 100% sucess with the papertoweel and zip-lock method. first wet the paper-towel,not completly wet but moist, then fold the seeds in the paper-towel and put it in the zip-lock bag, keep it in a dark warm place for about
1-3 dayys, you should see a tap-root by then, finally you pop em in the soil and watch em grow:hump:

Man, all I do is put them in a cup of water that has been filtered or distilled, I just use filtered (not sure, I think with tap water it works as well). So I drop them in the water, put them in a dark place like a drawer, and wait a day or two. Worked every time for me, the napkin process was not as effective for some reason.

Hope it helps.

I recently started a thread for finding the most reliable places to get seeds and it made me want to start some new seeds that I had on hand, but never grew any of. I wasn't gonna start anymore seeds this season, since I like to finish by mid-June, but here I grow again...lol

Anyway, the way that I germinated them was...

- placed seeds in plastic 8 oz cup, which is half-way full with aged (just let it sit out for 2 days or more) tap water
- placed in my dark kitchen cabinet for 1 day
- pushed down any seeds that had not sank to the bottom
- planted the 4 seeds that showed a tap root already
- let the rest sit in the water for 1 more day
- planted the remaining 3 seeds that were showing a tap root
- the 3 seeds that did not crack, I placed in a couple of damp paper towels that are in between 2 plates
- they cracked the next day

100% germination rate...

There is just something about the paper towel method... its saved my butt more than a few times when I thought my seeds had sat in the water too long. I now know from your thread that it would be okay to let them wait for 3 days.

Thanks Babylonburn, I always thought they would drown or something...lol but with a 100% lifetime success rate, I'm doing what you do, 3 days it is!

newbie ? and quiet the retarded one....

When planting your germinated seeds, does the white stem point UP or DOWN? I've Successfully germinated 4 seeds and then planted them in "seed starting soil" They never sprouted.

After a week I did a bad thing and dug up on of the 4 seeds to see if I was being impatient and it looked pretty dead?

thoughts?

LoL. probably shouldn't have dug it up. You gotta make sure the seeds are healthy, thats one thing i didnt know before i started mine. The darker, the bigger, the better. I thought the lighter ones would be better, No clue why, I guess im just to new to this shit. LoL. but i'm learning fast. So thats one thing to look for. The root goes down and basically lifts up the seed and breaks it open. If you look at my journal you'll see what mine did. Theres pictures.
