Hey all, i need to regulate my temp in my grow room so i bought a 5k btu window a/c unit, but i dont need it running all the time, only when lights are on and still then probably not constantly.

It has a three prong cord head that i plug into the outlet, which the directions say not to plug into a converter or anything like that.

But i say fuck that, i need it to work for me. Is there a heavy duty, or regular, timer i could buy, or a way i could hook it up to a thermostat located in my grow room?

There's only about 325w in this flowering cab so i dont need a real expensive solution, just somthing that will be safe and effecient, and help would be great, thanks

Could i get a bump. I just started flowering yesterday and its gone be a bitch manually turning on my window unit every morning. I mean im always up by 7 but that means i can never be anywhere else at 7am other then my house.

Anybody have any experience or input? it'd really help

You can buy a heavy duty timer. Look on the unit and see how many amps it draws. Go to home depot and find an appropriate timer that will work ie. if your ac unit is say 10 amps, go get a timer rated for 15 amps (you want a bit of a safety margin).

wow, I was surpised there. I want to buy a portable air conditioner and put it on a converter to get it to work for a 220 outlet I have. At this brookstone store I have here they had converters to actually change the voltage no tust the plug size. I had wondered about those. Any thoughts on converters for portable acs from 120 to 240 for outlets. Also I see no probs with your timer. I hope the ac is not so difital that it wont just run off a timer. Some are complivated.

You know whats going to happen(I know for a fact it happened with mine sences it's digital controls) The timer will come on, but the AC won't. You need to press the power button to make it come on. Is this an AC unit with digital controls on it? If so a timer won't work.

ETA: to test out if a timer will work. Plug the AC in. Start it up. Make sure everything is runnning. Then unplug it. Wait a couple of miuntes and plug it back in. If it comes back on then it will work. If not a timer won't work. The timers is just going to kill power to the AC unit so by unpluging and pluging it back in your just doing the samething a timer would do.

M4A1, sounds good, ill do that test before buying an expensive timer. Its not digital so im thinkin it will work, thanks for the input M4.

Tea tree, not sure what you mean by converting. Well i know having to convert between A/C to D/C, but on a portable unit you should be able to just plug it into a wall socket, it having already been converted for you i beleive. I have to do that with my pc can fans, powering with a/c adaptors, ei. cell phone chargers.
