question about drying and curing

i chopped my plants last week and let them dry for a full 5 days in a dark closet with a fan blowing in the closet but not right on them, just circulating air. it was dark and cool. temp stayed between 74-78 and between 31-35% humidity. the plants got what i thought was a little too dry. they felt crispy. like a dead weed from the yard. so i cut them down and threw them in jars. i read on here that if you thought you got them too dry you should throw a piece of stem back in there with them. so i threw a piece in there and it seemed to work maybe a little too well. some of them it got back to what i think would be right (i have never grown or smoked) and on my white widow i think it might have gotten too moist. i took the widow out and put it in a brown paper bag and am going to leave it for 24 hours.

now my questions are

does the jar add moisture on its own or does it continue to dry?

so should i pull the stem out or leave it in there?

it feels like it is about 97% dry and has just a slight touch of moisture to it, how dry should it feel?

should it start to flake when i touch it?

just kinda trying to figure this out. any help and i will +one rep for you.

thank you guys so much. i have learned so much on here to get it in jars and be this far. so in 3 weeks will be the test. :eyesmoke:

buds will feel crispy after hanging when put in jars the moisture inside the bud is drawn out makin em feel wet again than burp

i burped today for about 20 mins. how long should i leave the lid off for? should i leave it off till they feel a little dry again? i pulled the stems out should i leave them out?

pull the stem out!....when u go from drying to curein ,the wetness in the middle of the bud makes its way threw the whole bud "in jars"...uncap for 2 mins about 2-3 times a day!..i remember my first grow,i thought i dryed it to much too buds were wicked crispy.....then 2 days of being in jars the outsides were slightly moist again!....btw the onlger u cure the better its gunna taste and smoke! :)

some pepole will cure for a month-months...its all about how long u wanna wait!...but i just recently found a g13 bud ina jar i had under my couch..had to be in the jar for like 5 months....it tasted AMAZING!

when I burp I let the buds dry to crisp every time. then reseal. when they don't need any more burping I seal and leave alone for 2 weeks then check and sample.

4-6 times sounds like a little much to me! GL THOUGH!...ANY PICS OF THE GROW?!? :)

It would of course highly depend on the moisture content of the bud when put into cure.

The bending/snapping/breaking the stem below a bud is only so accurate and always doing it at the exact same time is pretty hard to pull off and what seems dried out to you might not to me etc. and then bud density comes into play so maybe when dried under the conditions in the instructions burping that often may often be needed.

I saw a video of someone telling people how and when to cure and he said he liked the stems below the buds to be slightly moist yet when he puts them into cure.

He said he has to burp more often at least for a while but he believed in his case it gave a smoother smoke. That was only his opinion, not mine or a claim.

But again, beginning with a higher moisture content equaled more frequent need to burp.

i just hung dryed mine for 4 or 5 days now its in a cardboard box that i will leave for another 4 or 5 days. after that im going to put them into jars and follow through with taking off the lid 2-3 times a day.

Ask reefermaster. I'm sure he has some great info to pass on. Something like, "hang it upside down so all the THC goes in to the buds" haha.
