Rockwool cube experiment

Hey there everyone. I was thinking about putting rockwool cubes in the bottom of the pot underneath the soil, to soak up extra water, to keep the roots moist. Do you think this is a good idea, or is it a breeding ground for mold? let me know!

i'd have to say mold.. you dont need your roots moist, your soil needs to almost dry, roots like and need air too. if its always moist they dont get any. you want your soil to dry out, not stay moist all the time.

you want soil that drains well, and make sure your containers drains too, adding perlite to your soil will prevent overwatering and make it easier for roots to grow through your soil

quoted from garden knowm you can sit your pot on newspapers to cover your holes and fill the bottominch or two with perlite as well for extra overwater/mold/root rot protection. this will probobly also result in more air to your roots as well.. logically

i personally am thinking of using something larger like gravel. have to see what i can find when i go to the store
