Root riot plugs

Sort of like rapid rooters I believe with a better real sealable zip bag. Any one using them? Any tricks or special additional needs? Soaking etc..... I've never cloned with these type of mediums. always been an aero type of cloner.

Most common mistake is letting the cubes dry out. They are moist cubes, we all put them in different spots of our grow to germ.
The hotter it is, the quicker the cubes dry out.
Don't put your seed too deep. !/4" deep into the cube. I take a pencil, or scissor tip and poke the seed down till I can barely see the tip still.

Clones. I haven't done many clones using them cuz we all have cloning machines but I am actually going to try a flat out and see how the success rate is.
The key is using a dome to keep humidity in. Mist the dome, not the cubes. Misting the dome keeps enough moisture going for success. Wetting the cubes
causes the bottom of the stalk to soften and weaken right at the top of the cube, that causes them to fall over.

Most of these tips are general rules that apply to many of the mediums you can use.

Soak them before anything then get a pencil or sharpy and open the hole up so that it isn't so tight fitting around the clone then put your clone into your chosen rooting hormone for a bit. I just widen the hole so you have less chance of damaging/bending the weakest part of the stem inside of the cube. Then I like to put a bit of the hormone directly on top and into the hole on the square. Put your clone in and put them in a clear container (I use a clear plastic shoe box) that can keep high humidity levels and youll have a clone rooted in 7-14 days depending on some other variables.

Thanks fellas Im about to take a stab at this in a few. I was wondering if I should soak them befor I started and opening that tiny arse hole they have. Good lookin. I dont have any hormone juice except superthrive. But me and superthrive been having issues after I start apply 1 drop to a gallon I see lockouts and ish shortly after. Maybe its my combo of nutes but shyt it always happens right after I add superthrive.

I actually am cracking some beans in these right now..2 of them just broke the surface this morning. I have had good results with cloning..However i tried to clone holy grail kush in these at least 3 times and it took 3 to 4 weeks to root them bitches! I have no idea why it takes so long?

Tell me about it man. Cannalope kush shows roots in 8-10days SLH 12-16 days while this Kandy kush is taking 21 days and counting. I see roots on 1 out of 3 and its just one damn skinny ass looking root so far with this strain.... I think im gonna try em in this root riot with my dome. They might need more humidity and higher water temp hmmmm or it could be my rooting powder thats causing the lack of heavy roots. You guys every use shutlz take root?

This is pretty much my exact method. I have made a couple improvements tho. First flip the cubes over so the wide end is the base. I put a small amount of water in the bottom of the container with a couple air stones hooked to a small pump. This eliminates misting. I also set the whole shebang on a seedling heating mat. I'm banging out roots in 7-14 days with a 100% success rate using this method.

I use clonex. Never used any other gel or powders. I thought I was the only one with the kush cloning problems! I'm tellin ya...I have 12 cuts all in the same dome and they all root up. The HG kush will almost be dead before it shoots roots. Shit is crazy to me!

I am using Root Riots for the first time right now. I used to use peat pellets (never tried rockwool as it wasn't available in my area), but someone more knowlegable than myself suggested I try Root Riot since we live in a very humid climate: Rock wool and peat pellets tend to stay too soggy sometimes. I soaked the pods in a mixture of rainwater, superthrive, Fox Farm's Microbe Brew, and a bit of molasses. Not sure if that was a good idea, but we will see. Underneath, I placed some coco coir that I'd soaked in that mixture as well. I usually use perlite when I want to increase humidity in a dome, but thought since I had coir sitting around I'd give it a try.

Once the pods were soaked I squeezed them out a bit and placed them back into the rack. Once I placed my seeds, which had not been soaked, into the holes I tore off a bit of a corner from the pods and plugged the holes with this. They are now outside with the vents closed. I've opened it up and aired it out for a few seconds this morning.

If anyone thinks this is a bad idea to soak in this mixture, please let me know. The other pods that were not used were removed and placed in a ziplock bag with a weaker mixure and placed in a dark cabinet.

I have terrible luck with rapid rooter type plugs. I can't clone in anything but aero cloners lol
Ok ok ok this failed big time... Man o man......I think I left to much water in the bottom tray..... half rotted out and the rest are dieing and drying out..... What a waste.... Glad I got mothers on call.... whew...... Back to the aero cloner until next month : / I aint got time for dat shyt right now lol I think I figured out my aero cloning issues. One cloner has a bigger pump which generates more heat (about 5 degrees)then the other with 90-100% roots in 10-14 days ..... My failing cloner has a smaller pump and the % is like 50-70% well actually this last time I checked was like yesterday it was low like 40% root rate in 16 days.... unfortunately that was the cloner I decided to put a mix of genetics....

"I think I left to much water in the bottom tray". This happens. I've found that rinsing perlite in a colander with my sink sprayer is plenty of water for the bottom tray. Let the perlite drip off for a few seconds so it won't flood the tray. Perlite has an incredible amount of surface area and when moist puts off much more humidity than water alone. Whenever the tray starts to dry out, give the perlite a good misting from a bottle. The perlite will also hold enough water on the surface to provide liquid moisture to the roots when they begin to grow through.

Magnified perlite particle

Another good thing about perlite is you can mist it with peroxide to kill any mold or mildew that may form. Be careful that your roots aren't coming into contact with the peroxide as I don't know what sort of affect this would have on the plants. The peroxide will decompose quickly to release oxygen, so be sure to have your dome vented for a bit if you are concerned about oxygen levels.

I've gotten 100% success rate using the riot cubes, like others said, himid dome and keep cubes moist and you're guaranteed roots in a week or so. Using clonx seems to help too

Got a bag of 50 for free. 100% germ rate and clone rooting. only used 12 of them but they work great.

no presoak is needed. just get some rooting gel take a spoon and scoop some out (so you are not contaminating your container.) you can widen the hole if you want but i dont find it necessary. dip each cutting into the gel and make sure they have a good amount on them, but not too much. if you have a 7" Mondi's clone tray set them in spray the CUBES directly about 5 or 6 sprays with either no nuted water or very very little nuted water, then mist the clones and lid lightly. come back a few days later to spray CUBES again if needed and also the dome but only if needed because you dont want to keep misting the leaves it will slow down the root development because the clone is absorbing nutrients from its leaves instead of thriving to get roots developed. should take about 5-11 days. and i would putting them in front of one may 2 cfl bulbs 20-30 watts. make sure the room they are in is nice and warm to they love it. i've had 100% success rate doing it this way. hope this helps.

0117131347.jpg0117131348.jpgUpdate: 9 days so far.............. I left a few in there with the dome off like I usually do when I forget or just get fed up........ Maybe I do it just to see who does survive a drought or just pure neglect......... Anywho........well 8-12 have roots now poking out with just a misting here and there days after i took the dome off. The few that did make it Cannalope kush being the main survivor out of the 25 I plugged..... lol she is hearty gal.......a keeper damn for my line up for sure...

I will try again soon. I have 25 more left and will not leave so much water in the bottom of the tray and use gel instead of power substance. I can see strong roots benefiting from the plugs though. Something to dwell on I suppose....

Here is a pic of roots 14 days in my aero cloner which just gave me 100% this week on the cloning rate : )
