Safety in the grow room

Hey you guys. I was talking to another grower and told him the story about why I stopped growing last time and suggested that I share it with the forum.

I had water in my grow room. It was a cheap hose tied to the plumbing in the house. I was in my office for around 2 hours after watering. I heard this horrible noise that had something to do with water I was sure, but had never heard it before. I thought it must be outside but it was so loud. I ran downstairs to check it out and then I saw that my kitchen and two other rooms were flooded. The water was coming through the light fixture in the ceiling. I ran upstairs to the grow room. There was 6 inches of water! I ran in to turn off the water without thinking about the ballasts and surge protectors that were on the floor. I got a pretty big shock. There were 2 1000W ballasts on the floor and other assorted electrical gadgets. I was so scared that the floor was going to cave in, that I would lose my plants, and someone would see me cleaning up that I didn't think about getting hurt. It took me 3 hours of working like a mad woman before I sat down to think. I called a friend and just started crying. I decided that the plants were done enough and that I couldn't deal with it plus I had so much adrenaline in me, I whacked them all down, trimmed them up and hung them up to dry along with the rest of the room. DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING ELECTRICAL ON THE FLOOR!

sorry that had to happen. not only do not put electrical items on the floor but also everything should be ground fault protected (GFI). if you had GFI protection you would not get a shock
