second attempt at a grow, need some advice

ive grown once before and it turned out ok for the little knowledge that i have. im looking to get 2-3 plants growing and harvested within a 3 month period of time and hope i can accomplish it with the resources available. ive got numerous CFL and power compact lights lying around. i also have a ballast that will run either power compact or T5HO lights. im pretty sure im going to go with the T5 lights, as they are 39watts a piece / 36 inches tall and thats about as tall as i want the plants to get. here's a list of what i currently have:

ballast - omnitronix electronic ballast (smart ballast)

2 x SYLVANIA 20582 - FT36DL/835/ECO 36 Watt - 4 Pin 2G11 Base - 3500K - CFL

5+ 26watt 6k CFL bulbs (not sure how many i have actually, i know i have 3 in sockets that i can easily retro into the area im going to turn into a grow area).

numerous pots and soil

numerous fertilizer agents

the area im going to grow in is around 4' tall x 2 feet deep x 3' wide. rough estimate, i havent taken any measurements. i plan on building a box to house the 2-3 plants i want in there. i also want to set up some type of irrigation system, as i plan on using it down the road to grow veggies and maybe green stuff again.

another concern would be the eventual smell. im a wizard at building filter systems for cat litter boxes with computer fans and was hoping there was a DIY on how to create one that would effectively kill the odour. also, i run 2 BIG hepa filters in my place and was wondering if putting one in there (or right next to the grow space) would negate any of the smell.

sorry for the barrage of questions, but i want to do it the right way this time within the time frame i have!

thanks!

Not sure what the questions are. There is a DIY section with lots of filter ideas. I doubt a hepa would work.

big question would be odour control and if a carbon filter defeats that, thats easy enough.

second question would be adequate lighting given my dimensions. would like to keep plants under 3' tall if possible.

another question is soil. is there a preferred brand that has what i need in it, or will dosing ferts be the norm?

and finally, an irrigation system. im wagering all this can be found in the DIY forum, though im on the road and trying to get a few things while im out and cant really search like i could on a home pc.

-edit-

my hepa filters have carbon filters on them as a pre-filter. supposed to combat odour. would that not assist in the removal of any smell that may arise? i see the DIY carbon filter in the DIY section... so am hoping the carbon pre-filter on my hepa will help :D

...for 2-3 plants? your probably better off buying some lavender plants...

...3 month period? probably best to use "autoflowering seeds, once it germinates the clock starts ticking...

been looking into the auto flowering seeds, will likely give that a go.

as far as lavender? not sure what you ment by that. clarify?

See bolded...are you planning on mounting the lamps vertically?

i will mount them however they will do best. if vertically, fine. if horizontally, fine. since im building a gigantic 4 x 3 x 2 wooden box to grow in, i can mount them anywhere.

ive been reading and it seems CFL need to be inches from the plant. im fine with this.

I only ask because you compare the length of the lamp with the desired height of your plants. If mounted over head, length of lamps really would have no bearing on height of plants :).

no worries mate, the more questions the better. since reading last night, it seems i should mount them vertically and keep the plants 2-4 inches close to them. i have some nice reflectors that came with the ballast/bulbs and was planning on getting some mylar as well.

auto flower seems the way i will go, given my lack of time. is there a preferred seed bank? i was looking at dutch seeds, but they seem pricey compared to someone like say, dope-seeds...
