Shout out from a newbie... and a question, of course!

I want to start off first by shouting out to everyone! I'm a new poster but have been hanging around for a bit.

This is my first hydro grow ever and it's been 3 years since my last soil grow.

This time around, I built a custom grow cabinet. The interior dimensions are 36" wide X 24" deep X 42" high.

The lighting system is a 600w digital ballast with air cooled hood (with tempered glass) mounted on the OUTSIDE top of the cabinet (hood and ballast are outside of the cabinet).

Currently my ventilation is a 265 CFM squirrel cage fan (mounted to vent exhaust air outside the grow room) with ducting to the hood (4" ducting from the fan to the hood where a converter is installed to accommodate the 6" hood). From the other end of the hood I have another 6" to 4" converter from the hood to the ducting which leads to the 4" inlet on the cabinet. The cabinet inlet is towards the top (where all the hottest air should be).

The cabinet is AIR TIGHT with three (3) 1.5" passive inlets holes on the bottom of the cabinet (the cabinet is mounted on caster wheels and has a 4" clearance from the ground).

In a room with an ambient temp of 78 degrees, when I turn on the lights the temps shoot up to 97 degrees within 20 minutes. WAY TOO HOT...

Too me, it makes sense that I need to find the right amount of venting to get these temps down. Does it make sense that if I were to increase my passive vent size or numbers I should be able to vent a cabinet of this size successfully?
My gut tells me to start increasing the size of the passive vents or add more, but I want to make sure my logic holds water before I start chopping up this beautify cabinet! :cuss:

Thanks in advance, any input is greatly appreciated!

BTW: Sorry I don't have pics now, but I can get some if needed.
