what is a good soil mixture?
i was originally thinking 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 peat moss
but alot of people are telling me all that doesnt have to be done. that as long as i get a good bag of soil with good drainage and water absorbation that ill be fine.
what do you guys think??

are you really going to follow someones exact recipe? Why not get creative with your own soil mix? i know a lot of people on here swear by Fox farm ocean soil, and Black Gold soil and Miracle grow Soil. Me personally, i use one part chickenpoop, one part potting soil, and ill be adding some Alaska Fish emulsion very lightly.

When I first switched to soil I started using Fox Farms Ocean Forest by itself...then I started adding perlite...now I use FFOF and I add perlite and some Ancient forest humus soil, and some extra worm castings...seems to be working well. Looks and smells awesome..but for real you can use FFOF all by itself, but I think it is better to use extra perlite...I like messing with my plants, watering and feedign and what not, and the better the drainage the more often the plants need me.

its all about personal preference, whats available and what works for you. Their is all sorts of soil recipes right here on riu with all sorts of ingredients. Its probably easier to keep it simple. My outdoor holes have a 1/4 cow manure, 1/4 potting soil, 1/4 peat moss, and 1/4 original existing soil. I will usually throw a couple hand fulls of lime in each hole also. But basically you want to make your soil very fluffy, the easier the roots can penetrate through the soil the better.
