soils?

I'm about to start a grow, but I need a good preference on what kind of soil I should use. I know that Miracle Grow is horrible soil for weed, so I won't use that. I have a bag of this stuff called Sta-Green and I'm not sure how that might work out. I used it when I tried to grow a couple months ago before my plant got chopped or something, and it seemed to be going well. The only concern I have now is that this soil has water release capsules or something. I don't know if that will be good for the roots of the seedling or not. Will I also be needing a fertilizer as well?

I'm curios about this too. I have a potting soil mix and i was wondering if it works. I think it is just like sta green as far as consistency.

I use equal parts peat moss, perlite both not miracle grow, and mushroom compost or composted manure. I add 1 tablespoon per gallon of mix. This is pretty much promix. Stay away from pre fertilized soils and time released nutrients.

scotts topsoil will work, as well as hyponex soil that you can find at walmart. Cut it with 30 to 40% perlite and add the lime at 1 tablespoon per gallon of mix to buffer the pH and provide calcium and magnesium.

thanks once more and one more question...what is a rough estimate of how much this all should cost. I got money, but not lots of it.

A good quality local potting soil should be about 10 bucks a bag for about 1.5c feet. I cant stress enough that an investment in good soil and light is way more important than the fertilizer you use.

I don't like perlite, most quality soil has enough in it (I use fox farms). You dont want to mix 50/50 perlite and soil unless you know what your doing and going for a more agro ponic medium.

Id go look for the best "organic" soil you can find, becuase these will hopefully have no time release chemicals and generally are a higher quality (and beware, price) then regular garden soils. Using large enough containers you wont really need to worry about fertilizing, and you can simply respond to deficiencies and start ferting during the flowering period.

I dont know if miracle grow is bad for weed. Iv never used it, I know of several on this site who have used miracle grow organic and miracle grow moisture control with great success.

Keep it simple. Good soil in a big bucket. Throw in good light and you get bangin buds
