I am a California medical marijuana patient and first time grower. I have 6 plants that I am growing outdoors in Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil, in 15 gallon pots, the strain is Barney's Farm Critical. 2 weeks ago I noticed my large old lower fan leaves started turning yellow and wilting and falling off, it started moving up my plant and now the lower half of my 6 plants towards the middle look empty because most of the large fan leaves fell off, and it is quickly moving towards the top, in fact some of the top leaves are beginning to yellow, and I am seeing some green leaves with light colored yellow spots on them.

There is a big pile of dead dried up fan leaves which I have piled up from all the leaves that fell off and died. It is now August 9 and my plants have started flowering about 2 weeks ago even though I did not switch from my Vegetative base to Flower, but once I noticed they started flowering I began to use my Flowering base in addition to the additives (I started using the Flowering base a week ago)

I am using "Super Nutrients" SBA/SBB as my Bloom Base (I was using SVA/SVB for Veg Base)
I am also using additives: OceanGro, HygroZyme, Ful-Power, DarkEnergy, Cal-Mag, Super-Thrive, and Hi-Brix (Base and All additives are at 1/2 strength)

I mix all the above nutrients at HALF strength into 9 gallons of water, I've found this is the appropriate amount of water my 6 plants need every 2 days to stay hydrated...

I water/feed every 2 days, for example; Monday I will feed (water+nutrients, PH balanced) skip a day, Wednesday I will give just PH balanced water, skip a day, Friday I will feed again (water+nutrients, PH balanced) and so on

The reason I am giving them everything in half strength is because I recently had a nutrient burn, while in Vegetative, I was giving everything (base and additives) in the recommended dosage, but my PPM was relatively low... about 600-700 if I remember correctly, so I decided to increase my Veg Base (SVA/SVB) from 5 ml per gallon to 6.5 ml per gallon, which surprisingly burned my plants...

After doing some research about plant problems/symptoms, the symptoms my plants are having resemble a plant with NITROGEN deficiency, but I believe I was giving the appropriate nutrients during vegging (SVA/SVB) which is a Vegetative Base nutrient, and now that my plant is about 2 weeks into Blooming it shouldn't need as much Nitrogen? and I am giving it SBA/SBB which is a Bloom Base nutrient at HALF strength, which I plan on increasing to recommended strength on my next feeding ( 5ml per gallon )

Here are some pictures I've taken with my cell phone, hopefully they are good enough to give you an idea of what might be the reason I am having these problems with my plants... please help me fix this... I really appreciate anyone who took the time out of their day to read my story, look at my pictures, and help by giving me some advice/instructions... Don't know what I'd do without you, Thank you in advance!!!

ABOUT 2 WEEKS INTO BLOOMING, BLOOMING BEGAN ON ITS OWN, I WAS GIVING THE
PLANTS THE VEGETATIVE BASE NUTRIENT (SVA/SVB) AND IT BEGAN TO FLOWER ON
ITS OWN, SOON AFTER I BEGAN GIVING IT THE BLOOM BASE NUTRIENT (SBA/SBB)

SPOTTING IS ALSO OCCURING ON MANY LEAVES, ITS EVEN HAPPENING ON THE LEAVES THAT ARE HIGHER UP ON THE PLANT...

Are the pots getting too hot and dry?

Is the canopy getting too hot?

I'm not sure about that spotting, it looks like ph flux.

I would give them a bit more nitrogen and some epsom salts.

Definitely your lower problems are not enough water and those black pots baking in the sun paint the pots with white latex paint to reflect the sun and keep the heat down

those spots could be root rot and thats probably being caused by the pots being in the sun and getting hot

I was just at an outdoor grow yesterday 15 gal pots ffof soil the soil temp was so hot once we dug 6in down into the soil that it was not pleasant to keep your hand in and the plants looked real similar to what you have going on

Hi Hells Canyon,

I'm in Los Angeles and some days recently have been above 90, and where my plants are gets full sun for a few hours, from about 11:30 am to about 4:00pm (the hottest times of the day) so If i had to guess I'd say yes the canopy might be getting too hot at times...

about the ph flux, I always PH my water and water/nutrient mix to 6.5 so I'm not sure how it would flux...

Right now they're about 2 weeks into flower and my base nutrient is SBA/SBB (Bloom) by Super Nutrients + all the additives I listed... I'm not sure how I can give them more nitrogen? and I have epsom salts, what is the purpose of giving them epsom salts and how can I give it to them?

About the plants not getting enough water, I water/feed them every other day, for example: lets say its monday and it happens to be a water+nutrients day I'll give them that, and then skip a day, and then give them water, then skip a day, then again water+nutrients, skip a day, water, skip a day, water+nutrients, so I basically alternate between just water and water/nutrients (I always PH to 6.5 no matter if its just water or water+nutrients)... I usually give them water and water+nutrients in the morning, and all 6 plants combined take about 9 gallons of water or water+nutrients... my R/O filter only has a 3 gallon storage tank and it takes almost 2 hours to fill it up, so sometimes by the time I have 9 gallons of water in my bucket the plants start to wilt from being dehydrated... I know what I need to do, I need to make sure I have the water ready to go the night before so that I water immediately when I wake up... the reason I told you all this.. do you think that hour or so of the plants being wilted could cause such dramatic side effects?

I thank you for taking the time to give me your input, advice, and instructions, it really means a lot, much appreciated

About the pots getting too hot, I've covered the pots in 3 layers of natural burlap to absorb the heat, I figured that would work even better than just painting them white.. what do you think?

check the npk of your two nutrients, maybe mixing some of the veg base with your bloom would bump up your n content.

burlap will work great + you can spray it with water to keep temps down I like the idea

second the hour of them not having water will cause them to do exactly this im always on the dry side in my garden and have this happen to me every now and again where my bottom leafs will be a little droopy when they dry out a little bit to much

Epsom salt-you are useing RO water the filter removes all of the bad stuff in the water like chloramine, fluoride, and salt the purpose of adding Epsom is to force your plant to absorb nutes thats why so many companies use chelated salts in their nutes YOU WANT TO AVOID SALTS it will cause problems in the long run salt build up is toxic Epsom does have some magnesium in it that you may be lacking it gets removed in the RO filter general organics makes a cal-mag+ that works great 10-20 drops (eye dropper drops) per gal of water/nutes

I dont like set schedules for watering or set rates for watering
I like to check my plants in the am and pm everyday outside their are so many different variables outside that contribute to more or less water usage you might have better luck keeping them from wilting by giving them half as much water or so everyday its not out of the norm for outdoor potted plants to need water everyday in August and September so thats just somthing to thank about dont get stuck in a mold or set a schedule
